Bored in WoW - doing something wrong?

Hi guys. So i've been playing WoW for about a month now, on and off, maybe few hours per week. I've got my rogue up to level 34, did mostly questing, pet battles, partied up with other people for quests, and joined parties for dungeons as well. I was invited to a guild of about 900 members, saw the chat discussions, but never really participated in any of the events, as my level is a little low. And I never did any of the professions as I didn't see the point.

Overall, I'm feeling a little bored, mostly because the stories are uninteresting, and my abilities are just a little bit boring. and not sure whether I want to continue, try another character, or another MMO (im thinking of FFIXV as i love JRPGs in general for their story, battle system, etc..).

So basically, my question to others is, what made you guys keep playing WoW? And are there other MMOs that you liked better that you think WoW doesnt have that I might like better?

Sometimes people get bored. Play something else for a while. Aside from raid I don't log in very often.

Play some other single player RPGs, play some other genres like MOBA, You will narrow down what you like and what not.

WoW isn't for everyone. Most of us here have been playing for 10+ years, and back then WoW was the only good Western MMORPG. So we got sucked in. What holds us in is probably habit, more than anything.

But as people said above - the real game in WoW never started until you are top level. Try and hang on until you are 110. A long way, I know, but shouldn't you have been given a level 100 boost?

    Use it.

Rogue has always been a boring class to me. It was the last one (until monk) I got to max level and I were I to do it over again I'd have just used one of my boosts, which is saying a lot since I usually love leveling alts. Leveling now isn't as much fun as pre-Cata either, but not much that you can do about that. You might try druid (feral is rogue-ish) or go for a totally different playstyle. Could also try opposing faction. Oh, and there is no point to professions, just take two gathering skills. :P

My favorite MMO is ESO. It is the most RPG of any of the MMORPGs I've seen. Fully voice acted, you're given choices during questing that actually make a difference, the stories are amazing (especially Daggerfall Covenant side), it's Elder Scrolls so it's rich in established lore, there is a crazy amount of choice in class builds, and it's the only MMO I've played where professions aren't mostly pointless.

And that's why you can now rry classes at max level and receive a boost when buying the game. New players don't have to grind levels if they don't want to.

Mostly friends i've made by playing, general story (not the "dem harpies took mah supplies", but overall story), and general curiosity, like "how this class plays out?", "what types of monsters are in this location?", "what i'll get from the next quest as a reward?".

Everyone gets bored after a while. I didn't play for most of the Tanaan Jungle patch; still haven't been inside HFC. Take some time off so you don't burnout and you should be fine.

Personally, the levelling process isn't all that much fun..and the real game begins once you reach max level and start raiding and doing mythic+ dungeons. I would focus on grinding out those levels until you reach 110! Once you feel like you can join your guildies it will open up the game so much. Also, i recommend joining your guild on voice chat while they are raiding or just hanging out, since being included in the guild is such a strong motivator for most people who play. Also, your class selection might be playing a big part of your lack of interest in the game. In my opinion, Protection Warrior and Resto Shaman are very fun classes to play!

Not always :P Classic and TBC wasn't scared to let you enjoy the process of leveling and was not eager to usher you to the end.

don't burn yaself out, just play something else between sessions. I bounce between Singleplayer games and MMO's like Swtor and TESO when I get bored.

I often find I will be playing other games for a while and will think to myself that I want to do something in WoW and BAM, no more boredom in WoW.

Neither does any other expansion afterwards. As a matter of fact Cata-Revamp Leveling is more enjoyable than Vanilla ever was, it's peoples personal choice whether they want to rush or not.

based on your story and boring ability complaint, give FFXIV a try. tons of story with cutscenes and voice acting and the ability animations are a lot better.

If you like the newer style MMO's where they try and entertain you through the leveling process, yeah its probably going to be boring. Granted with the new expansion the queues are probably long but its the reason so many of us just did Dungeons ( well that and the xp is better). I don't know though, if you are bored after 34, in a game that is insanely fast to gain levels in, MMO's may actually not be your cup of tea.

FFIV has solid story lines, but outside of the cut scenes, isn't a whole lot different to level in than any other MMO imo. It's just a tad bit more flashy ( and can get you seriously side tracked on a class you had no intention to play to begin with).

Different people burnout at different speeds.

Eh if you can only last 34 levels I still think MMO's probably aren't going to be for you. 34 levels is nothing, even if you read all of the text. It's literally a few hours.

Nah, it's easy to get bored with a particular game.

I leveled up to 106 or 107 (I forget) and by then I had already discovered that--despite all of the zones, dungeons, etc.--the expansion is really only about one thing: Artifact Power grinding to level up your weapon.

That bored the shit out of me and I logged off. The PS4 has had so many crazy titles drop in the last 4 months that I haven't even bothered to log back in and get to 110. Although I heard that the new patch is bringing a great new feature: you can catch up on your Artifact Power by grinding for more Artifact Power!

    Um, pass.

I see 2 reasons to keep playing wow - friends and sense of attachment to your characters, can't imagine a new player being attracted to wow without having friends beforehand introducing him to wow and making the whole experience social and fun.

Probably I'm getting old, but I expect newer generation of players be more excited about the games that are fast paced and you get to the heart of the game nearly immediately. That's why Blizzard focuses on hearthstone, heroes of the storm and their newest franchise overwatch. You can play from the get go, you aren't gated behind long process of levelling, gearing up and developing your character.

Even if levelling in wow is sped up these days it will never be as exciting as exploring and questing in single-player game.
