What do you think of panhandlers at intersections?

If I have change I usually hand it out to the guy/gal. Today on my way to a jobsite there was a kid with atleast 20 piercings on his face and a sign saying "Will work for food" at a major intersection. I hate seeing full sleeve tattoos and dozens of piercings on their face. Am I being an angry old man yellling 'get off my lawn'?

I try to ignore those guys. Many intersections or freeway on ramps are run by crews, that rotate shifts. They're also very territorial and aggressive to other local homeless. Gotten in a few verbal altercation when I bike commute and stop at one of their lights. Cant help myself from calling them on their shit.

Its a lot better to help out at a local shelter, or homeless youth support group.

I'm sure some are genuinely in need, but there was a panhandler that a Chicago newspaper did an investigative story on and it turned out that he lived in a swanky apartment with high end appliances, and made a six figure income every year.

The homeless people near me give me the 411 on everyone. Who's on drugs, who actually has a home, who's trying to earn supplemental income under the table because they're on disability, etc.

No two homeless people are alike, the choice to give is up to you.

They should be arrested for interfering with traffic.

I try to boot them out from the private parking lots whenever I can, especially when they don't speak English. Otherwise I call the cops on them.

If they want my help, they can go to one of the three reputable kitchens that I regularly donate to and occasionally volunteer at.

I try to ignore them and not make eye contact. There's something about people weaving between cars while stopped at a light, that seems off to me. Personally, I don't believe the few I've seen to be genuinely homeless. They often appear far to neat and clean to be homeless.

That being said: I donate socks, and canned soup totaling about 1000$ every year to homeless shelters and food drives. I've even bought a few a meal if I was on a lunch break and noticed someone asking for help. So I don't feel particularly guilty about not paying any attention to the panhandlers.

If they are not causing issues for any traffic or any repair/safety crews, I don't care if they are there.

I'm fine with them there. But I won't give them any money. Just recently a panhandler was found dead from drug overdose downtown in my state, gee, I wonder where he got his money from. If they need food and shelter there are helps, and if you want to help a panhandler give them actual food.

I have no issues with them as long as they are not violating the law or hassling me to give them money.
