Terrorists behead German hostage after not receiving ransom

Jurgen Kantner: Isis-linked Philippine militants behead German hostage

Abu Sayyaf releases video purporting to show 70-year-old sailor's death

A 70-year-old German man held hostage by Isis affiliated Islamist militants in the Philippines has been beheaded after a deadline set by his captors lapsed.

Philippine officials said they received reports that Jurgen Gustav Kantner was murdered at around 3.30pm local time on Sunday afternoon by the Abu Sayyaf militant group, which pledged allegiance to Isis in 2014.

Abu Sayyaf had threatened to kill Mr Kantner in a previous video after accusing the authorities of attempting to rescue him instead of negotiating a ransom, and on Monday released footage which the SITE intelligence group said showed his beheading.

As the 26 February deadline passed, Philippine military spokesman Brigadier General Restituto Padilla said troops were continuing with operations to rescue both foreign and local hostages, in spite of Abu Sayyaf’s threats.

Jesus Dureza, President Rodrigo Duterte's peace adviser and chief hostage negotiator, said in a statement issued late on Sunday: "Despite efforts exerted by groups and the security forces, I have received reports about the alleged beheading of a German kidnap victim in Sulu (on) Sunday afternoon.”

Speaking to the Straits Times, Major-General Carlito Galvez, commander of the Western Mindanao Command, and Colonel Edgard Arevalo, head of the military's public affairs office, said they also received unconfirmed information from the field that Mr Kantner was beheaded.

Local media reports said talks had been conducted with the militants over Mr Kantner’s release in exchange for 30 million peso (£500,000), but that they later broke down.

Mr Kantner was abducted in November 2016 while he and his wife Sabine Merz were cruising Philippine waters in their 53-foot yacht. Ms Merz was killed during the kidnapping, reportedly after trying to fight back against the militants with a shotgun.

The same couple were abducted by Somali pirates and held hostage for 58 days off the Gulf of Aden in 2008.

Abu Sayyaf has been active largely through maritime piracy since the nineties, and was responsible for the Philippines’ worst terror attack, the Superferry bombing in 2004 which killed around 100 people. It began regularly kidnapping and beheading sailors in 2014 as a means of supporting the Middle East-based Isis group.
The victim was christian, the murderers were muslim.

Why not go the extra mile and call the victim a Christian in the title, or is it too obvious at that point?

There seriously needs to be a 500 post minimum to be able to post in OT. These <100 post accounts with the anti-muslim "outrage" du jour or something stupid like that are the equivalent of walking into to an airport bathroom, going to a stall, and finding the last user left a present.

All I see is a lot of people who desperately need to go to their smartphones and delete every news app they got.

Of course the world's going to hell if every time someone, somewhere, does something horrible, you get a push notification about it.

The left argues for shared cultural history in its own ways. Health care for example. They say socialized medicine works in Europe, therefore apply it to the US. The reason given is that it is deemed a success in Europe and that cultural history must be shared with America.

So the right wing goes travel bans will help keep Europe safe, so apply travel bans in America because shared cultural history.

So terrorism isn't condoned in Islam, so saying simply that "Muslims" did it is not correct. Groups like this don't represent 99.999% of Muslims worldwide, they have taken it upon themselves to apply an incorrect interpretation to it that isn't supported by mainstream Islamic scholars, they're not practicing the same thing. Here's a good video explaining some of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naEj915VU20&t=3m20s

Meanwhile, Christian pirates discuss eristric dialectics with their hostages. Oh, wait, they don't.

The worst thing you can do is to pay the ransom, it only finances them and encourages them to take hostages again.

Those terrorists are communists that Duterte is killing, I guess they are Muslims as well as communists.

Its time for a US/Nato/german army intervention there. If the local government doesnt care or isnt able to clear the terrorist threath the world should do the dirty work for them.

Drop a nuke on them and be done with it.

The right wing will argue that 911 was done by muslims. They will argue the Boston bombing was done by muslims. The attack in London was done by muslims. The truck attack in Nice in 2016 was done by muslims. The San Bernardino shootings were done by muslims. Therefore, your opinion and data are invalid.

The guy was captured by Somali pirates a few years ago and freed via ransom then. This is - not excusing the barbarians in any way, shape or form - a good day for the gene pool.

Taking all of them, adding oklahoma, not all are muslims, but all are men!

Ok guys, thats it! If you want to be safe, ban all men entering the country.

Must play wow... Must be a person who wants pugs to be 10 ilvls over the gear that drops. 500 posts to post a topic? Really? I've been reading these forums for years now and I don't think I've cleared 100 posts/comments. Though I've only made a handful of topics, it's just stupid ( OT or not ) There will always be trolly spam and hate wherever accounts are free to make. If it means that much to you, why comment at all? Should have just closed the page when you saw his post count. ALSO! There was no hate, he posted an article. If people start fighting over this, that is the communities issue.

    Alright, let's play.

Oklahoma City Bombing done by a white Christian, Planned Parenthood bombing in MA done by a white Christian, Olympic Park bombing done by a white Christian, Wisconsin Temple Massacre done by a white Christian.

Seems like for every Muslim terrorist attack there's a Christian one I can match up to it.

Let's talk numbers, since that might help us clarify the situation.

From 2004 to 2013 the total number of Americans who were killed by terrorist attacks was a whopping 80. Of those, 36 were in America while the other 44 happened in other countries. Let's compare those numbers to some things.

From 2004 to 2013 there were ~130 deaths from school shootings, which is slightly more than 80 if my math is correct. The majority of which were done by white Christians.
In 2013 alone there were 33600 gun deaths in America. That sounds like slightly more than 80, kind of hard to tell though, maybe want to consider banning guns if the objective is to ban things that kill Americans.
In 2013 there were 3800 murders committed by white men in America alone, of course not all of those were Christian but it's safe to assume most were since it is the predominant religion in America.

Sounds to me like banning Christianity and guns would be the most effective way of making America safe, so if that's the rights goal they know what they should do. Let's see it done.
