So correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it possible now to...

Legally turn WoW gold into real money?

I buy a token with gold, I turn the token into battlenet balance, I buy a key for a game from the battlenet shop - you can do that via the gift function - and then sell it on ebay.

Anything I'm overlooking here or is it possible to legally turn WoW gold into real money now?

I'm sure you still risk the chance of getting banned, but it would be pretty hard to prove. Also you can only buy 36 WoW tokens in a 2 year time frame.

Why would I get banned for that?

And I've already bought 37 tokens in February alone, to test it, the limit seems to be removed.

It's all good. Bots run without a cause for concern. Run sellers get a 1 week vacation. Blizzard doesn't give a shit about anything, so you can do what you want even if there's a risk.

When they do "give a shit" it's only a 6 month ban. Lmfao

Why would I get banned to begin with for this? I don't use a bot. I earn my gold legally. I've already bought 37 tokens, if I wanna use my battlenet balance to buy keys, what's the problem? Is there anything saying that the person that receives the key actually has to be friends with me? You put in the email adress of the person who should receive the gift. So you sell the key on ebay, and then purchase the key from the battlenet shop, using the email of the person who won the auction.

Can someone point out to me what is supposed to be banworthy about this?

While you could do this I really don't see it being worth it as the battlechest is only 20 dollars and the current expansion gets added in pretty fast to the battlechest when the new expansion comes out plus they often have the 10 dollar sales. Especially since the gold price of tokens keeps going up. Might be work when a new expansion comes out if you sell it for cheaper than Blizzard.

I did the math. You could get a key for Legion for 45€, sell it for maybe 30€ on ebay, minus 3€ maybe for the fee, you're left with 27€. With tokens costing 180k gold, you would have to spend 623k to get 27€. So 6 million gold are worth about 250€. Certainly depends on how much time you are willing to invest into the game and how good you are at making gold, but that sounds good to me.

I'm not saying you will get banned for this reason at all, I'm just saying this day and age it's extremely unlikely for a player to get a permanent ban. 6 month ban is the "new" permanent

Within the blizzard store, yes. Outside no. I know this is what you knew and I don't think you can ignite anything out of it.

I believe this was the big controversy when the tokens were first introduced, right?

Seems like a lot of effort for minimal payout, and its all resting on the hinge that people are often on ebay looking to buy games.

I didn't use blizz store for ages, but wasn't there [GIFT] button (or was it checkbox?)? Blizz store won't activate your purchase for your account if you click/tick it but instead will send activation code to choosen e-mail? You can do whatever you want to this code later.

okey your using a diffent party to get infomation to send your gift to? i'd say yes it's banable offense. And only because your using ebay to change your gold into RL money. no matter how complecatend you try to make it. in game gold -> step 2 -> step 3 -> ebay -> profit. it wold hav been legal if the other source of Money came from blizzards own services but it didn't.

to help you out Blizzard is a big black hole, in which you throw money. if there is any one that has a bucket with a rope in their hole, your screwed. their hole their money and their dirt.

Yes, it is possible. However, I would be cautious when selling digital goods on eBay. They are not covered by the PayPal seller protection so people can just go ahead and claim a refund after receiving it.

If you really plan on doing it, print out the key and ship it to the buyer before you send it via eBay message or e-mail. That way, you have proof of shipping and as such should be fine (or at least have a higher chance of winning a case than just saying you have already sent it via mail etc.)

So what am I missing? I buy a key in the blizzard shop and sell it on ebay. How is this not possible?

What are you talking about? What different party? What information? Are you confused?

How are a couple hundred bucks minimal payout? Do you even have an idea how much gold I have?

Honestly I would imagine this is Blizzards intent, but I believe your order of events is flawed. OP has gold > converts to battle.net currency > buys blizz product. What OP does with that product is irrelevant, as there are no rules saying you can't sell a cd key to someone else as far as I know (if there is, well, OP is fucked no matter what trying to sell keys lol.) Basically unless you are specifically not allowed to sell keys no matter how you obtained them, to blizz servers it's the same as a friend giving another friend a gift.

edit: though like I said, I would imagine Blizzards intent be to not allow any form of gold to real money so if they were to find an operation like this I'd imagine they'd shut it down and change their legal wording, but who knows.

Yes, that is possible. If it's worth it to you, I'd say go for it! This won't be a big thing, demand is limited, and most people make a lot more money then gold, so it would be a waste of time for most. So no problem when a few people like yourself choose to do this.

I'd say it's more than likely possible in theory, that being said, on the UK ebay the cheapest is 27 GBP from multiple sources, so either they are all in on it and thats the lowest you can go to make money, or there is protection against it.

But I'm willing to bet there's some sort of protection in place, like you can only buy 5 digital copies of it. Theres no way blizzard is stupid enough to let someone make money off their business like that. Assuming you'd have buyers, you could keep going indefinitely doing this, and after each you'd be able to buy one or two more codes, rinse repeat, those couple of hundreds would turn to couple thousands.

Like I say, there aren't many on ebay and they are all the same price, which is a generally a good indication to me that you can't do it, as the old saying goes, if its that easy, everyone would be doing it

To the OP, I'm interested, care to share the method on doing that ?
