Thats not the complete story. Occupation is necessary i fully agree, but the will to change is also very important. The atrocities committed by Germany and Japan during WW2 were revealed right after the war, which changed the mindset of the majority of both populations. That "the cause was righteous" helped enormous, together with the Marshall plans.

What is happening the last 2 decades is "bomb the shit out of them" and "see what happens". There is no plan with a vision implemented, and that doesn't work. Even a downer could foresee that.

I sort of see where you are going with that. But on the other hand, no, I don't think we would have seen a Libya from Japan if we didn't occupy Japan. Would they be the strong and free democracy and faithful ally we have today? Probably not. Would they have slaves... uh, no. Not all countries are equal.

The Libyans are having a hard enough time as it is, why would you wish that on them?

Problem with that though is you can get madmen like kim jong who if left alone long enough can build nukes and that isn't good for anyone.

But then what else are we supposed to do with such an obscenely oversized military?

That's not a problem. In fact Kim Jong has nukes despite all the attention. Also even if some other madmen get nukes then what? There's no practical application other than genocide, just for the sake of genocide - they won't be able to take no land due to radiation which in turn will be a problem for their land too due to the nature of radiation and how it gets around. And even if they go genocide route - they can be stopped immediately. This way there will be less casualties and suffering than what we have now.
All right, gentleperchildren, let's review. The year is 2024 - that's two-zero-two-four, as in the 21st Century's perfect vision - and I am sorry to say the world has become a pussy-whipped, Brady Bunch version of itself, run by a bunch of still-masked clots ridden infertile senile sissies who want the Last Ukrainian to die so they can get on with the War on China, with some middle-eastern genocide on the side
