I believe it was only 7 missing but could be wrong.

    Have to agree with you.
It was only seven from what I understand.

That is really strange. Not the headings I expected to see at all. I presume the 180 is the point of impact.

Notice all the other vessels in the area.

Someone had to... omg I'm going to hell...
I sat alone in the dark one night, tuning in by remote.
I found a preacher who spoke of the light, but there was Brimstone in his throat.
He'd show me the way, according to him, in return for my personal check.
I flipped my channel back to CNN and lit another cigarette.

Wow, very sad for the seven families who lost their loved ones.

How does something like this even happen with ships like these? Aren't they equipped with tech that autopilots/gives warnings if another object is getting too close? Especially another ship?

There is absolutely ZERO difference in the outcome of a collision with it, regardless whether it's hamster-powered, diesel-powered, nuclear-powered or even fel-powered.

considering it takes awhile for a big ship to come to a stop, even smaller ships go aways before coming to a stop it's not surprising. unless you anchor it even fully stopped your going to drift. it's like you don't understand how water works. with a big ship you have to stop well in advance of the other ships.

I@m stupid. That out of the way, won't both ships be on the same side of the other if they are travelling in opposite directions?

"Crossing" in this context means at an angle to each other, not head on.

yeah after waving my hands in front of my face in various different ways I made sense of it

Althuogh out of curiosity what is the protocol if ships are crossing head on? Bigger has right of way? Or does that just not happen?

Those are other ships at the location they were when the track history was generated (not were they were for the entire time).

Color does not equate to actual ships' registry.

obviously you aren't gonna stop them. i mean turn them. the freighter could have turned, the destroyer could have turned.
