Hours later Christie denied he’d even been on the beach. After the photos were posted online Sunday and, predictably, went viral, the governor’s spokesman said: “He did not get any sun. He had a baseball hat on.”

When asked if he thought it was fair that his family could enjoy the park though other New Jersey’s residents could not, the governor said the beach house wasn’t near the park, adding his family didn’t seek state services. His advice Saturday for those state residents who wanted to use the beach: “Run for governor, and you can have a residence there.”

It's not his fault the state legislature forced the parks to be closed. They are closed due to a lack of staff, in this case, lifeguards. Since Christie is factually a whale, he does not need lifeguards. His family is safe due to security staff, etc.

He never denied going to the beach. He was screwing with reporters, obviously.

You can't let the public on the beach without lifeguards. What are you on about?

He sleeps in that building, right? The business going on inside, not shut down, right?

Yeh this was pretty sad. Even right leaning dude on Fox that interviewed Christie's employee was furious with him asking "Come on.. really?? Are you really going to not admit that?"

Doubtful. I would think it was funny if they did it too. The left always gets this confused. It's not like there is a pile of issues that makes one side angry, and a pile that makes the other side angry. EVERY issue makes Liberals angry, but only a few make Conservatives angry.

No, my allegiance in this regard is to the epic level of troll. If ANYONE had done this, I would love it.

Also, unlike many here, I'm fully aware that what I think about this really has no impact on the situation.

In this situation, he is the public. That's not a private stretch of beach, so he has no more right to use it than anyone else.

That doesn't somehow mean that "just take the stupidest stance possible" is the only logical course of action, though.
The entire affair is a stupid stance. What state refuses to sign a budget until literally the lights get turned off down at the courthouse? Christie is treating this with exactly the amount of respect it deserves, if not too much respect.

Then they can go arrest him for trespassing. I mean, what is that the left wants here?

They are getting what they want, they are huffing and puffing and everyone is pretending NJ budgets are somehow magically under the purview of the only Republican in the state.

They love to hate Christie. They are winning here. All he was doing, was showing the absurdity of the situation, and grinding their gears a bit. This is a win for everyone, both humor lovers, and angry, blame shifting Liberals alike. Literally everyone wins.

Christie knows his political career is over so he simply does not care about anything, he's going to milk this position for whatever is left of it.

Plenty of people on the right will gobble him up and pay him way too much when he is done there. This guy has been an empty suit since he started playing the role of Trump's shadow only to be cast out. Stunts like this will make him even more likable to the far right.

The federal government did it just over 3 years ago. The people that are tasked and trusted to take care of these sort of things don't care. They still get paid and a work stoppage just means time off for them.

FYI they closed more than beaches, so lifeguards aren't the only issue.

FYI, the thread topic is Christie at the beach, not Christie at the Civil War Museum, or Christie at the various other tourist attractions.

It's not about being at the beach. It's "closed beach". It's about abusing his position.

Yes, you and I understand that. This other poster did not.

Also, on a random note for the thread, can we call this #beachedgovernorgate?

    #beachedgovernorgate

That sounds like Christie got beached on the beach like a whale or something.

Would you rather he was at work though?
