Jet engine blast kills woman on island of Sint Maarten

Sint Maarten jet engine blast kills New Zealand woman

A New Zealand woman has died on the Caribbean territory of Sint Maarten after the blast from a powerful jet engine knocked her to the ground.
The incident happened at the famous Princess Juliana International Airport, which is just metres from the beach.
Beachgoers can walk up to the airport fence as planes take off.

Police said the 57-year-old woman had been holding on to the fence before the force of the jet engines threw her backwards, causing serious injury.
She was taken to hospital for treatment, but died later.

This ranks up there with people who chose to participate with running of the bulls and then die.

    Oh well.

It's hard to feel sympathy for idiots that do things like this. Though I do feel sorry for her Family.

That... sounds like an incident just waiting to happen. I am surprised it didn't happen earlier.

Exactly, especially since they have been doing this daily since the 1970's. It's a miracle.

Well, around 50 years without anyone getting killed by standing directly below a landing aircraft. I'd say we had a good run.

Honestly, it's just a major fuckup of authorities who allow such shit. That place should be walled off and be off limits to passerby's.

She may be dumb as fuck, but this indeed was an incident waiting to happen perpetrated by airport authorities. In her place there could be some kids, who certainly don't think twice when it comes to such stuff.

You're right of course. But to be fair you shouldn't need a governmental issue of warning to avoid getting killed by passing aircrafts.

Fair guess something happens there every day, but just not so fatally.

But maybe those two rows of blocks could have been left out:

The woman seems to trip / fall when she has to get over the first row, then smashes her head into the second row.

I don't really feel sorry for her. I would never do something so stupid.
That said, when you know people do something. Maybe remove really obvious deathtraps like those blocks.

All it would take it a little piece of debris to end it all. I would never stand there.

Now someone has to tell the pilot "hey buddy you killed someone taking off on your last flight".
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.

They are probably there to prevent erosion.

I don't imagine they were installed because some engineers wanted to have some fun and have a running bet on how long it would take for someone to die on them.

It is probably an unofficial touristic attraction, the government pretends to not allow it but looks the other way because it brings tourists for some unique experience.
