We have it here in Belgium also, while it is taken directly from our Taxes, we have several stations much like BBC has several, television, online and radio also and personally i would gladly pay for that add free experience to be continued.

They are supplemented by commercial stations of course and i find the competition to create a healthy and less sensational type of reporting. Not everything state run is bad, and i believe in the US most people assume anything state run is terrible which is why you'll most likely never see something like that.

It's normally referred to as 'the BBC', that might also help with any confusion over the subject in question. I really like the BBC, it has produced some excellent programmes (eg. The Office), it's a reliable source of news and covers events like the Olympics and Wimbledon. One of the best things about watching BBC 1 or 2 is that there are no adverts.

Apart from some of the old panel shows like Have I got News For You and QI I haven't watched any BBC programming in 5 years... (Same goes with TV in general) I tend to just watch the internet now., TV is dead to me.

The BBC produces embarrassingly little worth watching. It's insulting that the British public have to pay for it.

Put it this way... Netflix and Amazon COMBINED cost the same as the license fee. NOW tell me that you get enough content for your money.

Though, I do love how BBC News incredibly skilfully turned the whole Salary-transparency reveal into a "Gender pay gap" slap on the wrist, rather than the clear "WHY THE FUCK ARE WE PAYING CHRIS FUCKING EVANS 2MILLION IN PUBLIC MONEY" protest we should have been having.

Liberals are getting far too easy to manipulate. Well played BBC, well played.

I didn't know you could be bias toward centrist politics.

Though anything must be bias if you're that far right, I guess.

The only good thing about BBC is Wimbledon coverage, their athletic championships are a disgrace, they spend more time in studio talking shit instead of actually showing competition. The pedo disgrace is another thing, the news are biased. I stopped paying TV licence 2 years ago after 15 years.

If you do not like US style news, you can make the choice not to buy their newspapers, not to visit their websites or give them any money.

In the UK, if you do not want to see BBC news on TV and don't want to pay then that is a criminal offence and you will be prosecuted. How is that right?

Oh fucking hell, man. I was livid about this. Everyone moaning about gender pay when there are so many BBC employees on six figure salaries. At least when its CEO's and football players getting crazy money, its not at the taxpayer's expense.

Not being properly informed by watching a single station in the US is not a choice either. As i said later ours is directly taken from what we pay in taxes and i'm perfectly fine with it since i get enough in return, nor would you get a replacement of equal value for the same amount paid.

One of the main reasons we're paying BBC presenters that much is to stop them going over to ITV / Channel 4 etc. I agree that they're being paid too much but many of them would go elsewhere if they weren't. You could argue that maybe they should go and the BBC should hire cheaper presenters but one can only assume that a dip in quality and viewing figures would follow. A lot of the highest paid personalities are doing multiple TV shows and radio - Chris Evans was on The One Show, Top Gear and does the breakfast show on radio 2.

That does not happen. Nowhere in the western world are you forced to watch anything unless it is shown at school and even there you are not turned into a criminal for rejecting.
