I am not really into it myself... It kinda annoys me but don't let that stop you from enjoying it. Just not my cup of tea...

I tried liking it thinking it will be more like ambience. but ASMR is far removed from ambience than I thought, at least from me. I think Ambience more natural sounds like rain fall or birds tweeting, which I can get behind, but ASMR is just some dude distorting natural sounds with intervention, and to honest it comes across like your baby coming into your room 5:30 int he morning and whacking you around the head with its toys :P

I think there's different types of ASMR people. There's those that actually watch/listen for the ambient sounds and comforting. Then there's those that watch it because there's some moderately attractive female whispering into ears and making sometimes sexual sounds such as licking/biting/kissing etc. Personally I enjoy watching ASMR Barber. It's just a guy who goes around getting facial shaves and haircuts in various styled barbershops. To each their own though. I personally think those that watch the girl ones are doing it for more reasons outside ASMR.

I can get behind ambient natural sounds like rainfall, crackling fire, waves, birds singing BUT this is just creepy to me

I don't like it. I absolutely HATE the microphone rubbing and other audio shit that goes on with microphones like static, feedback, or basically anything other than what you're intended to hear in a typical music audio track. Also, I understand that for this kind of stuff you need to have the mic sensitivity WAY up to be able to hear the words being whispered clearly, but that means you can also hear lips smacking and saliva moving and stuff like that which also bothers me.
