    Angry Hacked

Yesterday I went onto WoW head, and a virus came up. It was the anti leave one (cant leave, endless spam), so I shut it down. I ran my antiware to see if any virus was left there, there was none. However, the virus appears not to attack your computer but your cached internet data. They have received my card, to which I had to cancel today. Please stay safe out there guys, watch out for this. I will never go back to that shit website again.

i've been using wowhead for ages, with a pop-up blocker, and never had any issues.

Same, when I kept reading about those hacked on WoW forums, I was like I've never seen one malicious attack. Just be safe, because now I see why everyone is saying that website is dangerous.

Not had it from Wowhead myself, but I did notice their ads started getting through Ublock a few weeks ago.

It's coded poorly, and has endless problems with ads, but I wouldn't say it's dangerous. You're probably very mistaken on what happened.

That said, I do wish that an alternative would rise up but this community is far FAR too lazy to put in the work for that.

Ctrl + Alt + Del, right click your internet browser and choose end process. Run your virus scanner, spybot search and destroy(free), and malwarebytes(also free). If you're running google chrome download and addon called "AdBlock" and you're set.

Sounds like a keylogger. If you haven't found it and removed it it's still there.

Firefox + NoScript = you will never get a virus ever again unless you willingly download stupid things.

Curse is infamous for using an exceptionally awful ad network that they run across all their sites (including MMO-Champ). I've tried to keep my ad blocker off sites I regularly visit and want to support, but Curse is my sole exception. Every I visit this site, my ad blocker catches 40-150 events which blows every other site I visit out of the water. Curse exposes its visitors without ad block to viruses, intrusive ads, tracking pixels and cookies, as well as an onslaught of other garbage which is why I refuse to whitelist them until they make some major changes.

I just found it, and thank you. I downloaded all that.

Adblock doesn't block Wowhead's ads, unfortunately. Ublock did for a while (the only reason I switched to it) but has seemingly also been wormed around.

I think its extremely unethical for sites like WoWhead to try to get around our adblock tools. Thats the reason I don't go to wowhead anymore unless I absolutely have to.

They should not even be putting ads on their FAN SITE.

How do they get the money required to run their FAN SITE then?

Gee I dunno, how were they doing it when they first started out? It was mostly a database with FANS plugging in the information in comments. If it was kept that simple it would be a lost cost to maintain it. However, they went in a different direction with E-celebs videos and promoting all sorts of garbage.

I'm sorry but a few small ads here and there are whatever, but when you have one of THE most infested, horrible get around many adblockers types of shit that is crossing the line.

I've been using adblock with chrome and have had no problems at all.

I've had wowhead get around adblock before, I switched to adblock plus and Fair Adblocker and have had better results.

This. Right. Here. NoScript is the best.

Learn to protect your computer from malicious ads. Will save you a lot of trouble on the Internet in the future.
But of course you never got hacked or infected for real, you just came here to post shit about wowhead.

There is an alternative. This site - it's coded and ready.
As you say, the problem is - we users want it all, we want it for free and we don't want to put any effort into it.
And we definitely don't want to pay for anything.

So we get what we deserve - ad infested site.
Because the staff that works on the site and gives us the things we want need to pay their rents and eat.

We're one huge, entitled bunch of crybabies.
