They are bringing back Voljin but possibly as a loa, troll in the cinematic wasn't Voljin. Tbh though Voljin was never a very interesting character, my guess is only reason they are bringing him back is to give us a in with the Zandalari.

Another thing is Blizzard always kills off characters from both faction equally even if its not necessary for the story, just so they don't seem faction biased. Carine got killed by Garrosh which was relevant to the story and they removed Magni as well but then returned him later. Same thing with Voljin only reason he died was to equalize Varian's death, now they are bringing him back.

That said, the existence and apparent importance of this urn, Thrall carrying it around, the involvement of Bwonsamdi, Zandalari and weird magics could mean that while he's not alive now, he could be in the future. Time will tell.

As far as i heard, he will be an Urn carried by Thrall but will also be in his "spirit form" and (i assume) will help us with the Zandalari Trolls (we even know we will meet his pal the Loa of Death)

i mean. Thralls actions fractured the horde and killed its founders Cairne and Vol'jin

This and confronting Jaina is his atonement.

He didn't just fail Garrosh
He didnt just fail The Horde

but most of all He failed Jaina for the sacrifices she made for the horde and has caused the huge downward spiral of Alliance relations for his neglect of events he put into motion.
