As a Georgia resident about 5 miles away from the district Ossoff was running in, who had to listen to Ossoff's campaign stuff 24/7 (few things make you rage like having to hear constant ads for a race you can't even vote in), I can confidently say his campaign wasn't bad at all. I assume this is just more regurgitation of conservative talking points, ala Trump's "lost an election he should've won! SAD!" he throws at literally everyone that loses regardless of any actual data. But Ossoff was a complete unknown in a district that hasn't been blue since 1979, a district that typically doesn't even run a Democrat challenger because the Republican has always won with 70%~ of the vote - and all the same, Ossoff ended within a 3% margin. Maybe it takes a Georgian to understand that even this result was like a blizzard in the middle of July in Florida.

On topic, these are a good sign, but I'm still skeptical about democrats in national elections. There's the hope that 2016 scared democrats into finally showing up to vote, but as an eternal pessimist I have my doubts that that will remain the case.

This isn't really true. We've got a system that is increasingly concentrating wealth. If wealthy people don't have stuff to spend money on, they invest it. Which drives stock prices to deviate from what was once considered the norm with respect to dividends paid.

So in a good economy, you can now expect stock prices to bubble way higher than they would have in the early 80s before piss on you economics gained major traction in one political party.

Which is why I find it bewildering that the republicans are now arguing that they need a "win" on their tax plan to have a hope in the midterms. So.... they need to cut taxes on the wealthy and make the middle class and poor pay for it, in order to win over the votes of the poor and middle class in the mid terms? How does that work???
