Found this in the Alabama election statutes.

"If only two candidates are standing for election for any one office or offices and neither candidate receives a majority, then the municipal governing body shall order a second or runoff election to be held on the sixth Tuesday next thereafter following the regular election" (source)

So it looks like if a write in causes neither candidate to get a majority, there will be another election 6 weeks later without a write in potential.

Damn. It would be interesting if Jones got the most votes, but didn't get a "majority" (which I'm assuming is 50%+1). Might be how AL will run it.

What scares me is that it has nothing to do with intelligence. The people voting for Moore aren't doing so because they're stupid, they know exactly what they're doing. It's a question of morality, or lack thereof. They are outright stating that the molestation of children is an acceptable sacrifice to keep a specific political party in power.

Last I heard, the GOP was floating the possibility of a write-in campaign for Luther Strange or someone else so I think "other" should be an option.

I wouldn't lay money on it, victories for write-in candidates are very rare and generally happen under unusual circumstances.

Moore will win. Because politics has become such a sports event in America that people will stick with "their team" no matter what happens. Apparently there have been a lot more write-in votes this year than normal. My conjecture is that it's people voting for Moore because he's the Republican candidate and too ashamed to show their faces while doing so.
