During one of my deployments, we pulled into Russia. Now, I'm not a drinker by any stretch of the imagination; I might have had a gallon of alcohol my entire life total. Anyway, we ended up in this bar one night for lack of anything else to do. We met some locals, and we chit-chatted for a while. One of them finally convinced me to try some vodka. "Not that sissy wheat crap you get in the states" he says. Real potato vodka. So I tried it. Really enjoyed it. When I got back to the states, I tried several different vodkas here, and none of them even came close. They all tasted like chemicals. Finally, an older friend of mine turned me onto Monopolova. I don't know if it's wheat or not (haven't looked it up) but it's imported, and tastes almost as good as the stuff I had in Russia.
Granted, I bought a bottle of it about 3 years ago, and 3/4 of it is still in my fridge lol.
