Solotank HC rag

Hey, so we got some new trials in which are abit undergeared, so we tried solotanking rag hc, im a protpaladin.
Need the dps to push him with 1x meteor untill our trials get better gear. Seen a video of this being done, but if anyone got some advice it would be nice, i ran with glyphed divine prot+mirror of broken images, but i still took shitloads of damage, especially as we we're running for seeds, since our holypaladin couldn't cast very much then.. so yea, if anyone got some advice on how this is done, please tell p3/p4 should be fine as the stacking debuff wont reach to high since he casts engulfing alot and we'll kite him into traps.

In that log you are using two tanks (edit, ok, I was just looking at the last try, try 1 it is with one)... And I don't think it's really possible to solo tank it (you reach 16 stacks... that's a bit more than "harsh") Wouldnt that video be of solotanking rag normal? Because I have seen that, but heroic Rag....

Although if someone has done it, it will be great to hear about it.

I was more thinking of the expression editor, since that is how I would find out things like how he drops his stacks etc. You could probably write a greasemonkey script that converted it all to English or something.

Checked the video, and they dont really drop stacks except for p3/p4, and that seems easy dropping

It's more like they just dps their way through the fight and the stacks drop during the transitions... For example, phase 2: http://logs.worldoflogs.com/reports/...=11146&e=11283 By the time he reaches 13, they change phase. He goes through with a HoS and mirror as his only cooldowns :S

The same with phase 1, http://logs.worldoflogs.com/reports/...=11016&e=11128 , by the time he is in 12, they have changed phases.

Moar dps, the solution to everything.

In p2, what if a warrior taunts the boss (hes dps btw) and pops a glyphed shieldwall and gets a hand of sacrifice? Maybe some other cd's, he'll tank for about 10s then.

If he gets a crit, he may very well die shield wall or not... It's probably better to let you stack.

The guild you linked killed Rag pre-nerf (10), killed it in 25 too, and probably has it on farm. P4 isn`t trivial for tanks, and doing it with 1 tank can complicate things pretty badly.

In my opinion, the DPS requirement for "somewhat safe" solo-tanking (meaning not ridiculous amount of stacks+damage) is much higher than the DPS needed to push one meteor.

Also, if you struggle with 1 meteor, you can post here; there have been other threads in which people have been very helpful. If you have a feral druid tank, you can have him DPS during P3, while the other tank solo-tanks it (prot pala is very good choice). Like this, both tanks can do at least 20k DPS, which is nearly-ish enough to compensate for people who are below the threshold.

Going with 2 meteors isn't hard, it is just harder than facerolling the encounter with 1 meteor. Anyways, I think it might just be an issue that either your dps are undergeared or not good enough.

And our dps are undergeared, i know they are all good, consistently got ranked (unless its impossible, like arcane mage without shard of woe or caster w/o legendary)

i'm assuming you won't have healer CDs available for a dps to taunt since you are single tanking, but if you only go through 2 waves of seeds you could have your dps warrior taunt during the first engulfing and then have him use rallying cry and shield wall after engulfing ends until your stacks reset. with heals and those CDs he shouldn't die unless he gets crit back-to-back but understand it will be spiky

the only thing that worries me with a 1 tank tactic, is the kiting into traps in p4. at least for me, a paladin, it could prove to be difficult to manage to outrun the boss, through the trap, in order to root him. Ofc that would be easier with heroic leap, stampeding roar, rocket belt etc.
