WoW Vs. Counterstrike

Which would you say is more well known or "popular" in a sense? Me and my friend were having a discussion and I'd like to ask those of MMO Champion.

You're kidding right? There's too few people playing Counter Strike now, and we still have 10 million players playing WoW. I don't see how this is going.

Beside counter-strike is way outdated, nobody updates it, unlikely WoW.

Well known and popular? Counter Strike, hands down. Every dirty corner of country side knows about Counter Strike since it runs on 20 year old PCs and it's pirated so badly that it might as well be freeware by now.

No genre vs genre wars
Some gamers like FPS games, others like adventure games or puzzles. If you don't like a genre, refrain from flaming those that do. You are free to express your oppinions and discuss what you dislike about a certain genre or game, but let people have their enjoyment.

i miss cs. after i won cal-o/m/i, cevo-m/p multiple times i quit the game and went to wow. now my old teammates are going to tourneys in sweden/france

Is this a joke? Wow is WAY more well known. You can go into any random room full of non-gamers, and ask what Counterstrike is, they're gonna look at you confused, and tell you no. You ask them if they know what World of Warcraft is, and they'll tell you it's one of them video games, and they may mention Chuck Norris.

Among gamers, they're both well known. The more casual you get though, the less well known Counterstrike is. I watched WCG a few days ago with some friends of mine, and one of them had to ask what Counterstrike is, she played wow for about 2 years though.

Its a which is more popular arguement, not a game vs game flamewar, i don't think this is really valid here.

As for which is more popular, in WoWs first 3 years i'd likely say CS, however with 12+ million people that have played WoW at any given time, massive amounts of addictions, family and friends of people that have heard of it through said addictions, i'd say wow is more well known now than CS ever was.

Also back when CS was popular youtube wasn't what it is now. Now EVERYBODY blogs or vlogs or whatever, I'd bet that there are more WoW videos on youtube with more hits than CS as well, but i'm too tired and lazy to look into it.

WoW also has both good and bad media, i've never seen CS on TV outside of the orange box and xbox ads. This is not a biased opinion, i have CS installed and i played day in and day out before i heard of WoW. I'll be playing the next one.

look at the video i posted above, CS was not very popular is america... China, germany, korea, japan, sweden (the list goes on)
counter strike use to represent there countries, national holidays were set around CPL & WCG and broadcast live on tv's across nations, the players
are considered major celebrities especially in most of china, sweden (SK GAMING) & germany & korea. was more popular than any normal sport,
school girls would have posters of there favourite players in there rooms, celebraties magazines were fulled with them, even buses in china
& sweden

America never really caught onto the whole e-sport thing. closest was Dota & Starcraft2,
I was working in Seoul in 2008-2010 & during Starcraft & CS big tournaments were going on
companies would close early just to watch it live on tv with families & friends, was rather

I pretty much agree with this and I also play CS though I stopped playing wow several months ago. Like said earlier in today's gaming age the more casual you get in the people asking the more wow wins out in terms of being heard of.
