    Returning to a Ghosttown

I reinstalled TOR and decided to try it again after a few months of patches.

I was not surprised that I was no longer in my old guild, but I was surprised that they were no longer on the server. We were the biggest guild on the server and Republic. No idea what happened to them.

Game is running fine and actually looks a bit crisper than I recall. Running the usual 40-60 fps on Voss. Still can't get rid of all those old quests. The one that has me really confused is a class bonus quest that I can't remove. Oh well, I knew they said that that was working as intended on their end.

I try some warzones to really see what has changed. First three I get in are ended from lack of players. Then I get in 2 voidstars. I guess I saw a slight improvement in fps, like 4-5, but really nothing significant. What was significant was the abuse that I endured as a Republic player on a dead server. Last time I played we won most matches, but I guess all of the players moved on or rerolled.

No idea what server populations are like based on the classifications, but there were 3 or 4 heavy pops. My server was low, and the rest of the servers were split between medium and low. This was at 10pm est. There was a sea of green servers. In a game where server populations determine your experience to a large extent, perhaps it is time to consolidate. I really feel bad for anyone stuck on those servers.

My friend recently picked the game up and is having as much fun as I did leveling up. I resubbed to play with him, but I just can't bring myself to roll another toon now. Playing every class on both sides to 10-20 surely does not help. I think that Bioware could still do well with this game, but they really need to act fast with these dying servers. I saw what they want to do in 1.2 and it looks promising. However, the longer they wait to consolidate servers the more they will have to work to retain players. Hopefully they come through with the free transfers that they spoke of, but it was not a good sign seeing the free/paid catch.

That is about as objective as I can be. Surely my desire to reroll would be much higher if I had better performance in pvp, but it is what it is and I know my CPU is the main problem now after watching my friend play on a laptop with everything inferior except the CPU.

Best of luck with the next patch. Cross-server matching will help some in pvp, but free transfers would please a ton of players.

They said time limitation or monetary measures as a prevention for abuse, I hope they make it free with a 6 month cool down period or similar, and hopefully fast as I think it's one of the more pressing issues the game has right now.

If you're on a low pop server and not in an active guild, good luck trying to get any HCFP's or any decent pvp experiences.*

Currently on Tomb of Freedon Nadd, was on The Exile's Crystal. You can barely get a group on the latter while the former has people looking for group night and day.*

    Kinda sucks tbh.*

Unfortunately*every MMO will have a population explosion in the first free month because everyone is checking it out and such. I have noticed a population dip on my server as well but it still hovers around Standard / Heavy at most times.

The problem with merging servers is that it will lead all the nay-sayers to a false sense that the game is "dying". You would see endless posts around "TOLD U SO, TOR IS DEAD" blah blah blah. However I will say that it will be needed shortly, as I think they went a bit overboard in how many servers they opened up at launch.

Meh, I'm on Mask of Nihilus and there are generally 100+ people in the Imperial Fleet until well after midnight PST. *Also, don't forget that Mass Effect 3 just came out so a lot of Bioware fans are going to be playing that for a few weeks. *I know I am.

Last night on fleet 202 peeps online. I am on scepter of ragnos-EU, and thats by NO MEANS a high pop server.*
And no i disagree with bioware giving more perks for free, we gonna end up like wow rofl, free 2 play till lvl20 , begging people to come back handing them lvl80 toons , diablo 3 for free and a pony pet with wings lol. No thanks.*

And tbh, i would love if the population was reducted a bit cause as it is now , illum is a farmfest ><

If you hit [enter] to go to the next line while using chrome, it puts up asterisks.

It may do it to other browsers, but it is not doing it to me in Firefox

Oh was wondering what that was, Doesn't seem to be happening to me in FF either.

OP: Yes the majority of servers are nearly deserted now, I recently decided to try the game out again since my sub's still running. A lot of people are levelling again, but they really opened way too many servers at launch.

Just wondering, why did you feel the need to turn this into a WoW Vs ToR bashing thread?

I would not wait on Bioware to implement a server transfer function. I would simply monitor the server status page during times you like to play and keep an eye on those which consistently show Heavy and have your preferred play style (rp/pvp/pve). There also have been numerous posts from people surveying populations and hopefully those will continue. My empire guild moved in late Jan to a RP server which was fine, but damn - never timestamp chat as that is depressing

There were also tricks posted on how to boost WZ performance at the expense of effects by moving files.

My server - Starstorm EU - is medium I guess. 100-120 people on fleet at the busiest, more on weekends, but there is no shortage of HM FPs and pug Ops running.

Though my server is also a "russian" server so much of the chat is in slavic languages.

Well, saying that ToFN has heavy population is quite normal, is was the MOST crowded server in TOR at launch (in EU) it had 6 hours of queue to even log on it.

I'm on The Ebon Hawk RP-East Coast-US and our Fleet population is roughly 60 during the day and twice that or 120 at night on weekdays and about 150-200 on weekend nights! We were, last I checked, in the top five of server population for pve & rp-pve servers!

Getting pug FPs is horrible, prepare to spam for about 45-60 minutes and pug OPs are pretty much nonexistent!

    It's a bug: http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/...rs-in-the-post.

Hopefully it will be fixed "soon".

I have 3 30 level characters on Mandalore the Indomitable US server however I just rerolled to the Canderous Ordo server since it is a consistent high pop and well I have some friends that just received a free trial to the game, so starting up scratch on a new server with them.

If u play republic on a dead server id recomend reroll on Tomb of Freedon Nad.
Probably the most balanced server out there atm
