This right here pretty much tells me not to fuck with RAMDisks.
I honestly would not get that much RAM, at least not anytime soon. I have 32GB right now and it's wonderful. 40 days of up-time right now and I've got 12GB in use. Google Chrome and Windows Movie Maker are being used right now. :P
Right now the only computer upgrade I could even deem worthy would be a new GPU, and that I'm planning to be the 1080, whenever it comes out.
Otherwise, I have bills to pay and I want to invest more. :P
Yeah, it was great not being able to install anything because the installation throws a "not enough disk space" error, because Windows 10 decided that the RAMDisk my temp folder is in didn't need to be larger than 256MB...
I went into the management software and made it be 4GB again /shrug
How come only 4GB? Time to pay up the $30 for the software and make a 16GB RAMDisk! Later on down the line, up your RAM in your computer so you can put something like WoW on it. :P
Are you using 8GB or 16GB sticks?
I set it to 4GB because I'm only using it for temp files right now. I can set it to more if I want to; my motherboard came with ramdisk software. I'm just not playing any games that actually benefit from a RAMdisk. Seems like Cities Skylines loads everything into RAM anyway (otherwise I can't explain it using 8GB of RAM on a 4.6GB installation) and GTA5 only has loading screens when you start the game (which are only a few seconds and that game is over 60GB so meh).
I'm using 8GB sticks because 16GB were too expensive. I was also unsure about compatibility of 16GB sticks.

Check the MSi site for your motherboard, there may have been a firmware update for 16GB support, if it didn't support out of the box.
How much do temp files slow things down? I've never really thought about it.
Hopefully this links right: https://pcpartpicker.com/parts/memor...ort=a10&page=1
Yeah... price/GB is still a solid $2 difference between 8GB and 16GB DDR4 sticks. Shame!
Still, only $230~ for a pair of 16GB sticks is NOT bad to be honest.
My initial 2x8GB sticks was like $100~, so that's not bad. And that was for a no heatsink bare bones set of Crucial sticks at 2133MHz.
I suppose I could always update my motherboard's firmware and just have 4x8 and 4x16... Get that... 96GB. XD After all... 8.1 Pro can go up to 512GB. :P

HOLY SHIT. Prices came down FAST! :O

$170 for 4x8GB?! I am tempted...
It came with the newest firmware, I don't know if M.60 has 16GB support. I think at the latest when it gets the bios update for BW-E though. Still, I'm pretty happy with the computer as it is. It is totally over-kill for what I'm doing right now, but I don't care
I will be running a development VM though at some point.
What is M.60?

Looks like your motherboard would support 16GB DIMMs as it supports up to 128GB memory with its 8 slots.

Also, overclock your CPU and join us in the CPU OC Leaderboards thread dude!
That's the newest bios version
I might give overclocking a go at the weekend. My motherboard actually came with an over-clocking guide
I'll probably just go straight to 128GB when I do my next upgrade. Same amount of RAM as my old PC has on its boot drive
Oh yeah
"Cities Skylines is using as much RAM on its own as I had in my old PC for the entire system". I also like the way that Windows loads everything you look at or use into RAM, so by the end of your day everything is super-instant. It even appears to keep buffered videos in RAM, because they buffer really fast if I watch them a second time.
The new "shadowplay" feature in the Raptr gaming app is pretty ok. I didn't actually notice it was doing anything until it popped up with this window that said "by the way, we recorded your gameplay for you".

Actually, scratch those overclocking plans: http://us.battle.net/overwatch/en/blog/19964704/
Overwatch (more) open beta weekend. Hopefully I get an invite
What're some decent monitors nowadays? I've lost track.
Miiiiiiiine.
Oh, for gaming?
Not really mine.
But mine.
Nah, but seriously, it's tough to keep track, honestly. >_<
Sounds like ASUS' new ROG Swift-type is on track to be a good 1440p 165Hz alternative.
Yep, 165Hz. Plus it's AHVA! :O
Not really for me, so some more sanely priced monitors. Is a friend wanting to buy a second monitor, but his original one is discontinued, so he's got to look for something else.
What kind of resolution does he want? I mean, usually for secondary I'd really only advise 1080p, unless you have a 1440p main, then pair it up and it's awesome.
