Saw the Dell U2515H at Best Buy for only $280 today.

    IPS but looks nice...
@Remilia @Artorius I know you guys suggest this thing somewhat. How about for someone like me? Would it be good for photo-editing in Lightroom/sometimes Photoshop?

Or am I going to miss the extra contrast on my current VA panel?

I changed mine a while ago, but in practice it does me no good. I only log in when I'm about to post something, so I always see the "GMT nazi shit." (lol)

Out of curiosity, what makes it such an attractive panel compared to what you already have? It has less real-estate (2556 vs 3440 horizontal), smaller color gamut (sRGB only), same refresh rate (60hz), and a different panel type (IPS vs VA).

I use three Dell ultra-sharps myself (they're only 1080p though), so it's not like I think they're terrible, I just don't see it as something that'd replace your VA. I'm far from a monitor aficionado, though. :P

Not a replacement for gaming, don't get me wrong, but rather just for photo-editing where no curve is honestly probably a better thing.

Plus higher pixel density is always nice.

If I could change to 24H instead of stoneage 12H that would be great, too.

As long as you're not working in wider gamut it's fine.

I think he is talking about time format. :P

Like apepi suggests, I do mean 24 hour format rather than 12H, ie "AM/PM".

Ah, I had a feeling that's what you meant, but I was like "but why couldn't he do 24?"

    So I ask, why can't you? :P
@Remilia soo... idk if I am working in a wider gamut? =X

Wide gamut as in working in Adobe RGB color space. It depends on whatever set up you are using your Canon raw files.

Shall double check tomorrow after work, but pretty sure it is Adobe RGB or sRGB.

Yes, several of my pictures are being printed.

Okay, so when photo files are imported and while I am editing them, they are ProPhotoRGB color space, and then when I've been exporting, they are in sRGB or I can export in Adobe RGB (1998) if I want a wider color gamut, which I'll definitely be using in the future for printing, since I'm pretty sure mpix.com supports that wider gamut.

I just used TFT's selector and it gave me this... do you think this would be a better option than the 2515H? Like, would it be better for this work? O.o It's quite a bit more expensive, I didn't say that high of a budget lol

Okay, after further studying, now I recognize that if I really want to see what I am working on for printing, I need the UP series. Swell.

UP series aren't bad entry level wide gamut ones. Otherwise Eizo CX or NEC PA series for something a bit better, or just go balls deep and Eizo CG ones.
The wider gamut makes a huge difference when printing.

Rather avoid spending ~$1,000 or more right now. Really can't afford anything atm. XD

Given that I want to properly drive the 10 bit with proper OpenGL support, I'll have to get a Quadro card as well.

Why the Dell UP2516D seems impossible to find anywhere is beyond me. I wish tftcentral had reviews for the UP25/2716Ds.

My RAW images? Are 14 bit... 4.4 trillion colors.

Yeah, 10 bit or higher even monitor would really be beneficial to me in the long run. Currently reading this wonderful article: https://photographylife.com/what-is-...aphy-workflow/

The limitation is in software rather than hardware so maybe Linux + drivers (open source versions?) might work where Windows doesn't?
Nvidia block it themselves, I doubt they'd leave the Linux driver with it turned on. AMD doesn't, and the normal Radeon cards can output it just fine under any OS. This isn't a Windows problem, it's just the way Nvidia wants to operate. They simply want you to buy the Quadro cards if you want to output 10bit to do professional work. Microsoft managed to make them allow it in the Surface Studio though, but they don't call it a geforce card.

Edit - Like I replied to Deltrus in a PM, it might work with modified drivers and if that's the case maybe it works using Nouveau under Linux too (the open-source driver), rather than using Nvidia's drivers.

After some research it looks like 10bit output is enabled on Nvidia's own proprietary drivers for Linux, you don't even need to use Nouveau. But then he doesn't have Adobe software anymore and would need to run them under Wine.

And Adobe is pretty serious/strict/tough/mean about how many computers you can install the software on - namely, two.

One is my desktop, one is my laptop.
