    class for caster fans?

Is sith inquisitor about the one and only class if you want to be a caster kind of guy?
How is the republic version of it? Anyone tried both?
    Which one most viable pvp?
Give me as much info as you can please, so I can decide when I join f2p weekend

Bounty Hunter/Trooper is a caster class, depending on your spec. If you prefer a mage type in WoW, then this would be what you want. Sage/Sorcerers are a bit closer to locks/spriests with dots and casts.

The Sage and Sorcerer are mirrors of each other so they should equally as viable as the other in PvP, it really depends on what side you want to play.

Well I loved my spriest =) never got my arse to lvl a lock though, but played some dot souls in rift as well.
But which one is best sage/sorcerer and on where on what side do you find them and which side has the best ones for pvp?
I know, lots of questions, but I'm curious Thanks for help

Sage is the caster advanced class of the Jedi Consular, Sorcerer is the AC caster of the Sith Inquisitor. They are exact opposites of each other (with minor caster animation lag they are fixing), and so if you like Sith for the inquisitor/sorceror, if you like Jedi for the consular/sage.

Correct. consular -> sage = republic. inquisitor -> sorc = empire.

They are the same. Its like asking if a human shadow priest is better than a undead shadow priest if there were no such thing as racial abilities. They are the same.

If you like pvp I would go republic. Shorter queues, less hutt ball (one of the 3 warzones) better chance at winning (server dependant of course)

But! Sages throw rocks and pebbles, while Sorcerers throw lightning like its candy. Visually the sorc is >>>>>>>>> than the sage. Playstyle, they are the same.

As the previous poster said, sorcerers and sages are the republic and imperial versions of the same class. Sorcerers shoot lightning, sages shoot little nuggets of poop.

BH Merc is a lot like a Mage. We have a CC just like polymorph and tons of proc's to throw fast heavy damage when everything lines up. We do extremely well when we dont have to move much as we can just keep the dps coming.

My sorc isnt high enough to tell, but it feels more like a lock or dot type caster.

Weirdly enough, the lightning spec is pretty much exactly like a WotLK elemental shaman. Thundering Blast and Affliction interact like Lava Burst and Flame Shock, Effusion works like Clear Casting, Polarity Shift is kind of like Elemental Mastery, and Forked Lightning and Lightning Overload are pretty much the same. You even get Chain Lightning and a Thunder Storm equivalent.

A lot of my guild is ex casters from WoW, all that prefer the play style really favor the sniper which is often over looked. Sorc is more of a warlock in my eyes, note that I haven't played it end game.*

I played a mage in wow and I am really enjoying the sniper class (pure dps, long range with heavy burst damage). BH/Trooper ranged dps is also very strong. For pvp though most people seem to be picking up the Sorc/Sage since they have survivability and lots of cc, while keeping up damage.

    LOL

Sorcs and Sages are not the same. They are supposed to be mirrors, but sorcs are way better.

this is kinda sorta true. Sages and Sorcs are mirrors BUT in terms of cast times and ability times Sorcs are far better. I playes a sage and Sorce up to 15 each, and while not a total account of all abilities here is an example.

Rock throw(sage) instant cast but takes bout a second to hit target
lightning shock(sorc) instant cast instant hit

both offer a 2 sec stun but sage is a bit slower on the activation which while not a NEEDED ability so to speak in a PvP environ does make a difference.

sage and sorc go head to head both fire off these abilities and the sage is stunned BEFORE the sorc

the same can be said bout trooper/BHs with cryo nade and electro dart

On every side there are 3 ranged classes that seem to fit the caster playstyle:
    • Sorcerer (Inquisitor) / Sage (Consular)
    • Mercenary (Bounty Hunter) / Commando (Trooper)
    • Sniper (Agent) / Gunslinger (Smuggler)

Of that list, only the first actually visually resembles a caster (by using force abilities). The rest of them use guns, but use many abilities with a cast time. Also bear in mind that your "talent" (called skills in tor) spec dramatically changes your playstyle. Taking the sorc as an example, you have a spec resembling a elemental shaman and a spec that's more akin to a shadow priest.

Like previously stated, the classes look different between the 2 factions, but are essentially the same (mirrored). The differences are mostly in the animations used, so go for whatever you like to look at If you need more info, sites like torhead.com (unsurprisingly wowhead for tor ) might be nice to check out.

If you enjoy playing casters because of the gameplay you should have a look at snipers and mercenaries, too.

But there is only 1 real caster class and thats the sorceror/sage. My main is a sorceror and its really fun in both pve and pvp. I can defintely recommend it.

It's kinda funny that the one class I won't touch in WoW is Mage, but I love the hell out of my Arsenal-spec Merc. I guess it's the rockets & lasers vs. fireballs & arcane stuff. Or that I want to do bad things with whomever the voice actor is for the female BH.

But yeah, while I can't speak for Pyro Mercs or the healy pewpew laser ones, for Arsenal, you've got one ability to apply a stacking debuff, a few abilities that play off that debuff, and other buffs triggered by your abilities to make others better. Tons of fun.

Oh, and Death From Above. Can't forget that. Had a BT HM with a DPS Sorcerer, myself as a DPS Merc, a heals Merc, and a Powertech for tank. 3x DFA + force lightning storm thing = utter destruction.

I actualy think the oposite whenn higher lv sorcerers will still be shooting lightning while sages are shooting massife energy waves, turbulance looks amazing. Its all opinion ofc.

I don't like the question "best" because they are all pretty balanced really. With the exception maybe of sniper in PvP which needs a *little* bit of love.

It's all about your intended play style at the end of the day.

You want to dot up people, then madness sorc. You want to lightning bolt with procs, then lightning sorc.
You want to basically destroy people with guns, lasers and bombs and be your own 1 man killing machine, then BH merc.
You want to be more strategic, hiding behind shields, rocks and doing insane damage as more of a strategic, rather than reactionary rotation, then go Agent snipe.

Note that out of those three options, the only class which only offers pure DPS functionality in all 3 talent trees, so is more a "traditional" DPS character and doesn't offer a healing tree is the IA sniper. Now the devs hinted at the guild summit that because of this the sniper is designed to be the class which gives the highest dps in game from what I remember, Georg said something along the lines of "when you look at the sniper who has the highest DPS in game, then you have to balance survivability" or something. I can't remember. I haven't noticed a significant difference in them though. Then again, there are not that many Operatives around, everyone wants a lightsaber.

They should be but they are not. Some of the sorc attacks hit faster then a sages does, they keep sayings its going to be fixed but so far it has not been. This effects both pvp and pve.

I am currently corruption sorc (Healer) i only PvP since i raid WoW and being a healer is actually very fun.
I was madness up to level 30 but when my companion started dying a lot and it was difficult to kill large mobs i decided to try leveng with a Khem later Xalek because he was a little more AoE.
Being madness is more of the warlock type(666) having to rely on dot up keep and procs.
Lightning is a little more like a arcane mage.

I'm actually about to try Jedi consular this weekend(Just to unlock a race though!)
