For those who travel a alot...

I have a once and a lifetime opportunity to travel just about anywhere in the world. I was wondering where some of you are from and what places you have visited that you really enjoyed? I'm from the U.S. and right now I'm thinking about either Ireland/Scotland or Israel (Jerusalem). I know it depends on the person and certain things that they want to see but I thought it might be better to get a wider perspective on other options that I haven't thought of. For instance...

I've always loved Western European architecture from like the 1300s-1500s but I'm sure i would like to see some Asian architecture as well. So I'm just trying to keep my options open and see what is the best place to sight-see and get a good/safe experience. I underline safe because I watch a lot of (locked up abroad) on the NatGeo channel. =P

I'm a Canadian who has been to one place on your list--Scotland. I loved it. The people were friendly and the sights amazing. I loved the mix of old cobblestone streets, clocktowers, castles, etc, with "newer" architecture. It was so much fun just to go to a pub and strike up conversations with locals.

Never been to Ireland though. I'd love to hit up Dublin.

I live in Israel (Haifa), and served 3 years in Jerusalem. I personally dislike the city, but I can't deny it's very unique. Especially the Old City. However, if you do visit Israel, there are many, many other places you should visit other than Jerusalem, such as the Negev area, the Golan and the Sea of Galile, and others.

As for places I've visited - Galapagos Islands, hands down. Most beautiful place (wildlife wise) I've ever been to. And I didn't even scuba (which was a huge mistake, and I'll definitely correct it sometime in the future).

How long is the trip? Certain areas require a decent duration for the visit if you want to see everything.

Thailand is the greatest vacation spot in the world . Everything is cheap and there is literally 100's of things to do from scuba to back packing rain forests . The people are super nice and the food is great . It is also one of the safest places for foriegn travelers .

While I would normally second this (as my wife and I visit every year [note: she's Thai]), but if it's 10 days including travel time, he's going to spend ~1/3 of the time on a plane/in airports.

Amazing place through. Really diverse environment just from going north to south (mountains to beaches).

I thought I heard somewhere that Thailand was actually one of the most dangerous places to visit. I could be wrong, I'll have to look into that. Thank you.

Im from U.S been to canada england spain germany Ecuador Argentina peru so i mean really on ur list i have no idea! XD

But if i choose where to go i've been to ecuador 6 times now(3 more but i was a baby those first 3 times so i dont remember) in my 18 years on earth and i just love the place. My family lives there so i go there all the time to see them and while the cities aren't exactly the greatest i really love the country. I'm more of a nature person so i love how ecuador within 12 hours u can go from Rainforest to beach and even into the amazon if you want to and of course the mountains. Its a beautiful country but takes alot of time to travel XD

My best friend went to Thailand, and if they know you're a traveler they will be " nice " indeed. She got dropped off at random spots she didn't want to and they all forced her to go into little stores and buy stuff.

    Thailand worst place ever

I would love to go to Israel. I'm just scared to death to go there. I would hate to be there when the real action starts between Iran and Israel.

I wouldn't worry to much about it, Iran lacks the conventional military capability to invade isreal.

There are times when it is dangerous (like if the government is having huge issues), but those kind of 'don't come to thailand -- really bad idea' situations don't arise all too often.

It doesn't seem to be on the radar, but Peru is awesome. We try to go every other year.
