I am a huge supporter of Guild Wars 2 and I think it's better than the current incarnation of WoW in almost every way. However, I just can't get past how weird and unnatural the game looks. The character models look like they are pasted onto the environment or just projected on there. They don't look like a fluid part of the environment at all. The background is beautiful, then you just have these characters plopped there that look out of place.
Another thing that bothers me is the highlight halo that surrounds a character when you click it. I think this form of highlighting is awkward and makes the above issue even worse. It's like the characters are even more out of place when clicked on. Also the animations are really choppy, it's not very fluid if I'm to be honest. It doesn't really affect the gameplay in any way, but just makes the game look less polished. Lastly, the characters look really bad compared to the background/environment. They look like they are more complex stickfigures. They are not anywhere near as round, natural or lifelike as I would want them to be. They are just a lot less pleasing to look at than some other MMOs. WoW graphics are way shittier, but the artwork is honestly miles better.
Guild Wars 2 has great graphics and looks awesome, but their artwork style is lacking in a major way. The characters look awkward and move awkwardly. This has no major effect on the gameplay, but it makes the game less desirable to look at. It is essentially a very shallow point that has nothing to do with gameplay, but I think if the GW2 team had spent as much time on the looks/artwork of the game as they have on the content & mechanics, then it would have even been more successful. You want to be amazed when you look at a new game, and besides some very epic looking bosses, GW2 doesn't LOOK that great.
At least the game is far ahead of the compeition gameplay/mechanics wise.....
