Also the original FMA did follow the manga at the beginning (which is why it is so similar) but then the manga stopped and they kept going (which is why the storyline randomly goes all weird in the original one). Even so there are some differences within the similar storylines in the beginning (which is why they bothered redoing them) so they are worth watching. But they condense the beginning so you get to the new stuff pretty quickly. Definitely finish watching it though, all the new things are amazing
