Lets help solve a problem - The hate group WBC

A petition is currently being signed online at petitions.whitehouse.gov with the title "Legally recognize Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group." This will be sent to officials in government in an attempt to make the WBC officially a hate group. This will cause them to lose their tax-exemption and take some wind out of their sails. Beyond their ridiculous hate-filled actions against homosexuals and soldiers in the name of "God", they simply create an aura of hate and distrust. They plan on attending the funerals of the children and adults lost in the Sandy Hook tragedy claiming how God wanted the children to die, and how the US deserves it for allowing homosexuals to live in this country. If you are tired of being disgusted by the actions of this group, or others of its kind, help us, help everyone, by signing this petition and making a change.

    Lets do this

If they don't like living in a country with homosexuals on it I say we put them on a raft and aim it towards Cuba or something.

No way. This group is a shining example that freedom of speech protects everyone, no matter how much we dislike what they have to say.

We label them as hate groups, who else? Atheists? They're trying to destroy Christmas. What about the gays? They are destroying marriage. Give me any social movement and a group of people would be happy to label the followers as a "hate group."

Do you see why constitution absolutely has to be enforced despite popular opinion?

We all know they're a hate group, but from memory have done a very good job (thanks, lawyers) of skirting on the edges of legality, so I don't think there's a good legal basis to achieve this.

Plenty of democratic countries prohibits hate speech.

Yes but they held those signs at enough reasonable distance away that the court has ruled it doesn't infringe upon mourners' rights.

They had to start holding those signs away at those distances because they were took to court over it.

I am one who would be happy if this group of people just fell of the earth (WBC) They dance around the "freedom of speech" to get away with things that they shouldn't be getting way with. There is many groups of people I don't agree with but WBC just takes it to far.

As hateful and spiteful as they are, they technically aren't doing illegal things.... and considering their target is, everyone, establishing them as a legally recognized hate group would be difficult. I don't really see a petition going anywhere.

That said, they're so foul and loathsome that even the KKK finds them despicable - http://samuel-warde.com/2012/12/kkk-...stboro-church/

Consider the group not a religion but a hate group and then tax them into the ground

Also there needs to be bans against picketing at funerals they are free to spout what ever garbage they want but they cant spew it around cemetrys or funeral homes

But tbh the best course of action is just ignore them like any other pesky troll and when that dried up old vagina fred dies lets party and i hope the gay community shows up in droves to have a debauched orgy on his grave

I'd encourage you to try, if President Obama/the White House sees people from other countries getting involved, I think it will show it's even a more pressing concern.

I honestly dont see how their shit is covered by freedom of speech, its plain hate and I'm pretty sure it infringes upon other people's rights. The good thing is that when fred dies they will go away permanently, I dont like to wish death on anyone but I think he has it coming to him.

That's funny, because when that director made that hate video on Mohammed and enraged the Middle-East, a majority of this forum was defending hate speech.

Why am I back here, I don't even play these games anymore

The problem with the internet is parallel to its greatest achievement: it has given the little man an outlet where he can be heard. Most of the time however, the little man is a little man because he is not worth hearing.

One of the petitions has 83,000 signatures and growing. I think that alone shows its pressing.

Thing is, a load of them are trained lawyers. They know their rights to the letter. The minute someone does something to them that they're not meant to, BOOM. Lawsuit, and ker-ching for WBC. Part of me thinks that's why they do all this nonsense, but then I realise "no, they actually do believe this." I'd not silence them, though. I'd be happy if they all went away, and I'd not mourn if they all died, but I'd never support someone actively stopping them.

His kids are just as crazy, I daresay. His daughter has told Christians that they are not Christians... on live TV.

    She makes my blood boil.
