You have to realize that models and specs are developed by different departments and thus aren't mutually exclusive.

Would love it really. except maybe rogue's getting a ranged tree, hunters getting a melee tree, shammys using more of the frost element as a whole. I'm really digging the idea of that priest tree though.

I want them to remove specialisations, not add more.

The game has become overly complicated and inflated, and it puts a great strain on Blizzard to balance it, and deploy content that is enjoyable for everyone. The only reason Druids now have four dedicated trees, is because they've always had four trees, but it was always difficult to balance and control.

Very cool idea OP I really hope Blizzard makes something like this in the future!

  5. #85
    Terrible idea.

If this is to be done instead of the new race or class, it will take away the freshness of an expansion.

...and the whole idea seems lazy as in: I have a monk and a dk but instead of leveling a cool new char in the next expansion I just want to level up +5(or whatever their margin will be ) on my older chars blaming blizzard for keeping the game less fresh with the new expansion.

4th specs and playable naga would make me happy
Warlorcs of Draenorc made me quit. You can't have my stuff.

I'll be kinda pissed if we have to wait for Expansion #5 for new models tbh.

    Death Knight - Lich
Plate Int DPS and Healer hybrid.

    Mage - Warmage
Allows the mage to wear heavy armor such as Plate, use two-handed weapons such as sword, axe and mace. Fight either from distance or as a melee dps. Imagine Ragnaros. Sulfuras Smash for the win.

    Warlock - Demon Hunter
    Mix of warlock and rogue.

    Rogue - Shadow Arts
Imagine Zed from League of Legends. ( Already have his W in WoW under the name Hit and Run )

    Hunter - Wild Tactics
Can ride his own pet out of cities and quest hubs. Can attack from the back of his pet. Pet is considered a mount 100% mvm speed.

    Shaman - Forest Spirit
Can call the spirits of nearby mobs to assist. Can beg a random mob in 100 yard range to give its life for the shaman. But the shaman has to find it. For a short period of time can pass through ingame objects such as trees and stones. Being inside an object when the effect ends will cause the shaman to die.

    Warrior - Samurai
Warrior that excels at outrunning his enemies, strong 1v1. Upon killing an enemy heals % of the damage done to that enemy. Shadowstep-like abilities.

    Paladin - Knight
Can fight while mounted. Cannot be feared. If knocked down while mounted the Knight will fall off his mount and take damage equal to 10% of his health.

Wish people would stop thinking of Rogue tankers. Most ridiculous thing I've heard of!

Fourth spec for Druids only happened because there were two legitimate specs already within Feral that could not be shunted into a different spec so they added a fourth.
    Paladin Bash has spoken.

Artwork for new abilities is one time require. Not every tier.
Tat's not how it works. You can't just hire new programmers and then wish a linear quicker progression.

Like, if you got 200 people on Skyrim making the game in 1 year, then it isn't as if 400 people can make the game in 0,5 year. It'd be, for example, 0,8 or 0,9 year. In our case, the amount of time on the design on the tier items isn't necessarily linear either. I say a little bit longer to wait for the tier sets (1 day for example) is no biggie on MMOC. Actually, I can't stop laughing about the concept of waiting one more day on them tier sets.

Also, in the above context, it seems class design wise, it is GC and GC alone.

You are correct there are 3 more specs to balance in a new class, and one more tier artwork to design every content patch, but 3 more specs are much easier to balance than 10 more specs. Especially on the grander scale. The more specs, the more infinitely complex!

As for the fellow who thinks about the overlaps. Monks. How did you describe monk healing to people? Before MoP? I always said: "HoT based like resto druid, with a bit of priest like influence." Resource energy, nothing new. Chi? A lot like holy power. See how there's overlaps? And that's a good think. A little bit of familiarity is good.

A tank.... A tank per rated capture the flag team. Tanks in the rest of rated pvp are largely just distraction. Also "as big an impact" does not equal NO impact.
A good tank isn't a distraction, a good tank is a nuisance. I never said they weren't niche (since everyone has a special role; it is less apparent than it seems though); I said they exist and have their place. The level of OP is "there is no PvP tank gear, so there is no tank" which is very telling, don't you think?

While I don't think this game needs any more tanks (it's not the lack of tank choices thats the problem, its tanking itself for most) you clearly haven't played alot of mmo's besides WoW. Ninja and Samurai type agility based tanks are not unheard of, its just as ridiculous as brewmasters, or the whole concept of tanking in hotkey-mmorpgs in the first place.

On one hand I absolutely love the idea, on the other, I absolutely hate it! lol

For me, it is a good thing because a lot of players are going to get what they've always asked for from their classes, e.g. shamans saying "why do we have taunt when we can't tank?". It also brings a lot more diversity to each class and a lot more for everyone to explore without necessarily having to level a whole new character.

However, as we saw from DKs, giving players what they want hasn't always turned out to be a good thing (DKs are brilliant, I play one, but they were a little unbalanced to start with).
Also, this runs the risk of diluting every class, a lot of suggestions made expand the hybrid nature of some classes and even turn previously pure dps classes into hybrid ones. This can be a good thing because it gives people more options, but a bad thing because it may lead to classes losing their true identities and uhm...I guess what I'm trying to say here is it dilutes the diversity between classes.
It will also create havoc for blizz to balance so many additions at once, this suggestion could potentially be a much larger feature to add than a new class. A new class has 3 (or 4) specs, but you're suggesting 10 new specs! Ouch, lol.

I think deep down I love this idea, I just think it will be difficult to make work.

New models are coming anyway, so I'm not sure whether there is a need to discuss it?

In short - can you add the following option to the poll "I love the idea of extra specs but I don't want it to happen!"

Agreed. Specs I would remove (actually I'd never have implemented them):

Combat Rogue -> If you don't like stealth, don't roll a rogue. Some of the mechanics could be used in other classes.
Unholy DK -> Merge with frost. One DPS spec. Make pet optional talent (to be permanent). DK be frost and shadow damage.
Enhance shaman -> Merge with ele. Ele would be a hybrid ranged/melee.
Disc priest -> Absorb healing sucks. 2 healer specs means 1 is always UP. Merge with holy.
Mistweaver monk -> Give windwalker some mechanics, but nothing big.
Survival hunter -> Merge with MM; one spec about the pet, one spec about the hunter.
Holy paladin -> Get rid of this concept, plate/int healing sucks.
Warlock -> Demonology. Some of these concepts can be used for the demon hunter.
Druid -> The only class I'd keep 4 specs. The druid versatility is something we saw in WC3, too. It is OK for one class to have something really special. Vanilla and TBC were all about this. They'd also get quatro-spec.
Warrior -> Merge DPS specs. Also to the fellow who said "making a samurai warrior for movement spec" every warrior already has movement spec. That's... why they are... warriors...

This contradicts the rest of your post.

For fairness, if blizz made your suggested changes, it would have to be spread out among all classes. Otherwise, inc massive WoW player base tantrum :P

As much as I love the idea of another spec for all classes, it would be hell to balance and PvP would be even more hectic than it is now. Plus you know Druids everywhere would start to cry about not getting a "new" spec, and although I love the idea of Druids everywhere crying it would be a lot of mess for something that could potentially do more harm than good.

I've posted these ideas a few times here and elsewhere, but wouldn't mind sharing them again

Begin with another revamp for ranged weapons. They are split into two categories: one-hand (pistols and crossbows) and two-hand (rifles and bows). The old models for thrown weapons are re-implemented as daggers, axes, or fist weapons (depending on appearance).

Warrior: Vanguard. Wields pistols and crossbows in offhand. Exchanges melee utility for ranged utility. Inspiration: Genn Greymane (Curse of the Worgen comic series).

Paladin: Crusader. Wields librams in offhand. Fully realized "shockadin" DPS spec. Inspiration: Shockadins.

Hunter: Beastmaster. Current BM spec renamed Beast Tamer. Melee spec with agility weapons. Inspiration: WC3 Beastmaster Heru Unit (Rexar).

Rogue: Scout. Ranged rogue spec that can use daggers as throwing weapons or (dual) wield pistols and crossbows. Most melee abilities transform into ranged abilities. Inspiration: Scout and Epic Scout classes from the RPG.

Priest: Cleric. Holy DPS spec that uses a Holy Form. Inspiration: Old Holy and Discipline DPS specs.

Shaman: Warder. Tanking spec that uses shields. Focuses on Earth Spells. Inspiration: Thrall.

Mage: Warmage. DPS spec designed primarily for melee range. Emphasizes short range spells. Wields staves in offhand with a stat penalty. Inspiration: Warmage class from the RPG.

Warlock: Demon Hunter. DPS spec designed primarily for melee range. Glyph of Demon Hunting realized as a full spec. Inspiration: Demon Hunters.

Monk: Wardancer. DPS spec that uses a fourth stance based on the Red Crane. Distinctly different gameplay from Windwalker. Inspiration: Pandaren Wardancer class in the RPG.

Death Knight: This is the one I always get stuck on. Easy idea would be to split Blood into a DPS spec and a Tanking spec. Not very interesting, though. Another idea is to use WC2 DKs as inspiration and create a more shadowy spec (with the spell Whirlwind). Or go for a Bolvar-inspired flame spec, transforming their frost spells and runes (Korthazz and Gorefiend both have fire spells). Or you could sort of do all of the above, and create a spec that revolves around blood and fire and has a spell that conjures a flaming whirlwind, perhaps drawing additional inspiration from the various Darkfallen mobs and bosses.

Warlocks get another dps spec? lol good thinking there op

I would like to see a revamp of Rogue and Hunter for the next expansion. All of their specs feel outdated and stale.
