    Windows 8 resetting....taking forever? Help!

So I want to downgrade my laptop to Windows 7 but first I have to get rid of 8.

So I looked around on the internet on how to do that, since getting to the BIOS was not possible I guess.... I clicked the reset option...

Turns out it takes incredibly and stupidly long.

I have been waiting for 2 hours now I am estimating and it is at 11% only.

It is excruciating to say the least.

I would like to format my drives via the usual BIOS but no....can't get to it.

While I wrote this is it has been upped to 12%. This is just dumb on MS's part....

BIOS doesn't actually format anything.. Some drive controllers feature a secure erase but most nowadays don't especially laptops. To format, simply put in the Windows 7 disk and boot to it then delete the partition entirely and click Next. When I do reset in Windows 8 it takes approximately 5-7 minutes, but then again I have SSD RAID 0. What you're suffering is a slow 5400 or even a 4000rpm hard drive trying to read a huge disk image. Windows 8 has a recovery image that it uses to reset itself whenever the user opts for it. You can make manual image backups that it can use that save all of your user data and even program data. Overall I'd say its actually a nice feature seeing as it takes me the same amount of time as installing Windows brand new and does the same effect without losing major documents, pictures, etc and I don't need a Windows disk. This is in my opinion anything but dumb.

Then you need to go into bios and find Secure Boot or UEFI boot and disable that. After that it should allow you to boot to the Windows 7 Disk.

You know, it'd be easier to buy a $5 program called Start8 and just turn Windows 8 into Windows 7.

Well, if you want just power the laptop off by holding down the power button for 8-10 seconds or so... then power it back on and hit the bios key on the keyboard.

There's no reason to downgrade, technically is better, and menu start covers your entire screen with pretty tiles instead 3/4 of your screen with barely clickable names.

If you mean F8, that won't work. This is Windows 8 and they changed that here.

There is great reason to downgrade. I don't like it plus my study requires 7.

Bios key can also from what I have seen F2, and delete. Generally it is also F10 for boot options.

F8 isn't bios bud... Bios is separate entirely from windows... I'm not sure on your laptop, but mines F2 when the Logo pops up.

generally when you first start the boot process it says what key to hit also. I am guessing that is not happening on your end though?

Yeah that also. Start as soon as you reset/turn on the comp tapping the F8 or try one of the others I mentioned.

    N56 VZ from Asus.

However I think I got it. It's annoying to get there, but I am there now.

Generally Asus tells you how to access the bios when you first begin booting. I am surprised it does not say anything. Like mine on the netbook has the EEE Asus PC logo and tells me F2 to access bios.

What programs do you need that require Windows 7 but don't function under 8?

try to add new boot option and see if you can add the DVD/CD drive. Then make that the first boot option. Is all I can think of
