    Happy St George's day

So today is St George's day. I was wondering, how many people here actually celebrate a day like this? In England St Patrick's day is a national holiday but St George's day isn't, which is ridiculous. personally I am going to to celebrate it today with all of my friends who actually care about the holiday.

I would celebrate it, if it actually meant anything. To celebrate it simply because the Irish celebrate their patron Saints day (and to a smaller extent, the Welsh and Scottish too) seems like a flimsy reason IMO.

St George is the only patron saint of a UK country to have never visted it's shores, and despite the story behind him being interesting (and fun, as a child), it is all a load of hogwash...

Celebrating St Patrick's day was an example, personally I don't celebrate the Irish holiday. Some people in England even celebrate the 4th of July, but St George's day gets washed aside.

Also everyone knows the "rumour" behind St George isn't true, its not about celebrating him slaying a dragon, its about celebrating English patriotism as an Englishman.

I raise my glass of breakfast orange juice to you lot down south. At least the weather's warming up a bit.

False. St George is based on the pagan Horse rider cult that was incorporated into Christianity. It has absolutely nothing to do with England.

This I can agree with. I just wish people (mainly my family!) would stop using St Patricks day as some sort of example of how a patron saints day should be celebrated!

W.T.F! If you mean go to the pub like every other day of the year, then ... yes!

St. George's Day is meaningless. It is almost never mentioned in the media too - check out the front page of every newspaper today and the BBC website.

Most people who Celebrate the 4th of July are either Americans living here or some Brits with an odd sense of humour! Still if I was at a party or around an American persons house when they celebrated I would join in. When in rome and all that!

On topic, I don't celebrate it. Only thing to Celebrate is England winning football/cricket!

Rugby is a sport played by men with odd shaped balls *GIGGLE!*
I suppose Rugby as well but I don't really follow it. But any excuse to celebrate a sporting win for England will do.

I don't even know who it's supposed to be or why he's worth celebrating.
Saints this, saints that. Meh. Completely irrelevant to me.
