Thread: Black Desert

Looks cool as hell, but it's Black Desert so I'm sure I'd get sick of it after a while.

Kinda BS to nerf Awakening Drak on release and then revert back only a handful of skills at half what they were from GL.

PA really can't decide how powerful they want Drak to be it seems. Succ is kinda broken powerful and that would be fine for PVP. But why nerf Awakening so hard for PVE? Especially with Marni's realm now.

Come on now, PA. Drakania is probably the most popular class since Dark Knight. Just let a girl fly at mach speed. Nobody likes Lahn anyway.

New twin classes Woosa (Black Desert Online) and Maegu (Black Desert Mobile) are out today and tomorrow!

Fuck, I wish this wasn't a PVP game. I hate non consensual outdoor PVP. Getting jumped on makes no fucking sense to me.

It so rarely happens in practice. I understand people don't even like the possibility. But in actual day-to-day practice, it almost never happens. I can't recall the last time someone jumped me at all. I even go afk in farming spots for hours at a time every day.

That's pretty cool. I guess it's in the culture by the looks.

There is a better chance you will be kidnapped while AFK fishing than someone is gonna PVP you in the world. PVPing like that is just kinda inconvenient for everyone. There are a million server channels and flipping between them is trivial. The bulk of PVP happens in the arena and guild vs guild wars.

Everyone is too busy managing their business and farms. All the flashy combat in BDO is really just to fuel; 1. Fashion, obviously 2. Your personal medieval business.

You can also play on the seasonal servers. Where there is no PVP, accelerated questing/progression, and carries over to regular servers at your choosing.

I think most people in BDO play seasons then convert that character at the end to be part of their trade/farming empire.

That's exactly what I do and almost everyone in my guild(s) as well.

Okay you little devil. Got me convinced to put BD to my queue list.

the woosa seemed pretty fun I got her to 51 i think it was, her short range Iframe is abit clunky she comes out of it in a walking animation. her long iframe is similar to the lahn. I liked her, she probably needs patches to fix her a bit but i'd like to see her awakening.

yeah the pvp isn't as bad as it was in the early days of bdo, there are more zones and grind spots now. plus season servers where pvp is disabled on all but 1 I think. so you can grind on there the whole season if you want. they did elvia a while back for high gear players so the ppl who can dunk you in one shot are doing other stuff thats more worthwhile.

Awesome, and thank you for the input.

Not against PVP if people want that kind of activity, but all PVP should be consensual activity only, this means that people who want to smack each other faces should join dedicated loby/arena/instance/server in order to do so. Otherwise it's a disruptive and toxic activity for people who gives zero fuck and just want to enjoy the game on their own terms. I gladly will take resets over being stuck with uncertainty while constantly carrying target on my back.

Forced PVP is a weird and outdated fetish, and I'm at the age where I'm not interested in any conflict. Just want to chill and enjoy my games instead.

the grind spots were heavily contested for a while and it was kinda built into the game, if you were good enough you could hold a spot and fight for it. I don't think you lose anything you just have to go find another spot. there are still contested spots because of how good the exp is and ppl still try to grind the infinite potion pieces but typically the ppl you would end up fighting, will probably have roughly the same gear score as you. anyone higher would have probably progressed out of those grind spots. before kamasylvia was added there wasn't many grind spots so they were heavily contested. but since then they've added other higher end grind spots. that moved all the ppl with really high ap/dp into different regions. I think the game was originally meant to be competitive, but I don't think there are many perma-reds anymore there just isn't really any benefit to it. the real pvp was always node wars because I think you actually get something out of being able to hold nodes. there a lot of channels these days and a lot of low end grind spots that you can go to quite a wide range of spots to farm even if a bunch of them are taken. polys forest is quite popular because of the low requirements but the exp gain upto 62 is probably the best there solo. even if that spot was taken on one channel there are like 20+ channels. or you could go to the 20 other places that are equally as good as polys.

    some years ago you had

    sausan's
    bashims
    cadry
    nagas
    bandits
    pila ku
    pirates

pretty sure most of these spots are on par with polys forest for exp, when using marni stones. silver gain will probably be better if exp isn't.

then the 2 'dungeons' hystria and aakman. these were the 'end game' grind spots before kamasylvia was released.

that was before kama. which added fadums, polys, manshums, centaurs and some higher grind spots

then we had dreighan that added a bunch more grind spots blood wolves are probably on par with polys they are super weak, sherekhan, and the swamp place. then odyllita which added more and the recent expansion added a few more.

basically at this point there are about twice as many grind spots today as there was in the gank fest early days. they added elvia where everything scales over 280 ap, a lot of the end game spots require over 320+ dp to not get one shotted. the pirate island has a harder version next to it for ppl with high ap/dp. there is underwater grind spots. if you can be bothered to sail out into the ocean. one of them is pretty easy the other is a bit more closer to hystria/aakman (sycraia) iirc. there are loads of places to grind these days. most of these places can handle at least a few ppl doing different routes on each channel. I think at some point they also altered the respawn rate of mobs, so it doesn't take long for one rotation to respawn.

Thank you for taking your time to compose this helpful post, I will have this information ready to be reviewed in future. This is where I also find youtube being useful for once. So I won't be bothering you friends with anything that can be found in short videos

There is also Marni 's realm now. Which is basically a private instance to grind as desired.

All the high traffic grind spots are spread around the world and desert now. Like 4 new regions were added to the game over the last couple of years.

The new "korea" region is coming next year and an ocean overhaul as well.

The new Magnus was added last month. It's like another dimension/underworld.

World pvp just isn't that common anymore. The world is huge.

I guess if you're still kicking dust at Bashim or Centaurs, maybe?

Though private instances and the "one world" system really cleared that congestion too.

The best BDO YouTube channel is EVILDOUSHARM. Aka, Jesus of the Desert.

Terrific, no nonsense, thorough guides in almost everything in BDO. All clearly spoken in English without heavy non-native English accent.

    Thank you for the recommendations

One of my favourite content creators in FFXIV is Meoni. Very professional no BS, no cringe, no drama, straight to the point providing quality information. I wouldn't lower those standards no matter how appealing clickbait criminals presents themselves to be.

Honestly, I don't watch much game related content online. I don't know anything about this Meoni.

BDO is kind of sandbox MMO with some atypical mechanics. It truly becomes a fashion show, casino or business simulation at the end game. Take your pick.

Evildousharm, that guy just gives you the facts. No stupid jokes, costumes, elaborate intros, ads for Raid shadow Legends or Manscaped.

Desert Jesus is just giving out the necessary information on how to milk cows and set up a factory.

Never played BD before, and I am burned out on WoW, is Black Desert worth trying in 2023?

Yes. It's easy to jump in and catch up via the seasons. Or you can just play seasonal characters all you wish and never bother with joining the "main world".

You can also try out every character maxed out in a training arena before committing to any class. So you have a decent idea of what a max level and geared class plays like at the endgame.

The life/trade skilling is ridiculously involved. The game is basically a feudal econ sim.

I tried in 2023 for the first time and it sucks. It MAY be good if you get to late game, but getting to late game seems to involve just running from point A to point B and AoE one-shotting mobs with the weakest skills. No way to learn playing the game doing this, so I imagine you'll hit a brick wall and will need to dump hours upon hours after you're done one-shotting everything for XX levels to actually get any clue on how the game is supposed to play.

Can't verify if the end-game is good, it may very well be, but it's not a good game at all if you're not invested in it already.
