After the latest episode, looks like Ward is absolutely Hydra, although in his 'real' personality he does seem to genuinely care for a the team, at least a little. It's pretty clear after he kills another two SHIELD agents AND helps Garret loot The Fridge that he's not any sort of SHIELD infiltrator. (At which point, I guess we can assume that Hand is as dead as anyone gets.) Nothing he could get out of infiltrating Hydra would be worth all the goodies he helped them get, not to mention that he could have kept his "cover" perfectly without leading Garret to the gravitonium. I'm also very much expecting a no holds barred throwdown between Ward and May at some point this season.

It'll be interesting to see where they go with Ward from here. And to help keep things a little more up in the air, Triplett is definitely on the plane. (Yay!)

I stopped watching this after episode 3 or so, it felt really crappy back then. After watching Winter Soldier, I watched the rest and series really picks up at episode 14, olympics break helped the show a lot. Hopefully they finally decide in what direction the show should go, recent spy-heavy stuff is best writing so far (I even got the urge to dig my Smiley's People DVD's).

Oh, and Bill Paxton is awesome, as always.

    This show is still going?

If I had time to watch TV, maybe I'd give it a second chance.

man this show has gotten so much better since they dont have to be so hand holdy about spoiling winter soldier anymore.

i cant wait to see where they take the kree stuff. hoping it leads to captain/ms marvel.

i hope they dont take the easy route and have grant become a triple agent/rejoin the team out of his "lovez" for skye. although because its SO obvious i have a feeling that might just be to throw us off the chase for when shit goes down again.

I can't see them making him a triple agent, after the shit he's pulled that's some seriously deep cover (deeper even than Snape in Harry Potter); but I can see him turning to save a team member's life (most probably Skye's) in a Darth Vader type final moment.

I'm experimenting with a new method of watching TV with this show. After watching Captain America 2, I starting out by chewing thru episodes on Amazon as fast as I could. I got upto episode 6 "FZZT" Then I decided it was too good of a show and wanted to savor it.

So here's how I watch it now. I start a new episode by watching the first 30 minutes on tuesday nite. Then I stop. Then next tuesday, I watch the full 60 minutes. Basically, I'm trying to break up each story into 30 minutes episodes. This way, I have "new" SHIELD episodes to watch every week.

I will start this with episode 7, and watch the first 30 minutes on tuesday, April 22nd. Then I'll stop and watch the entirety of episode 7 on tuesday, April 29th.

Since season 1 is 22 episodes long, I will be able to watch new material every week and I won't complete season 1 until sometime in November. Season 2 should have started by September or October and I can immediately begin with episode 1 of the new season.

I will never run out of episodes. Every week I will have new episodes until long after the show ends! I will never be stuck waiting months for new material!

At 22 episodes per season, there will be 44 weeks worth of SHIELD material released every year with my system. 52 weeks in a year minus 44 leaves an 8 week gap. So I imagine I will finish season 2 in september of 2015, just in time for season 3 to begin. I will have a two month gap in the summer actually as I will run out of episodes in july 2016.

Yep. Even if he was killing agents to maintain his 'ruse' of infiltrating Hydra, he wouldn't have shown Garrett that there was a secret floor at the base of the fridge with gravitonium, so I guess it's pretty clear cut he is affiliated fully with Hydra at this point.

"Providence" was probably the best episode of the series so far. And yes, I agree with what ringpriest said about Ward. Doesn't mean a change of heart isn't possible, of course, just very unlikely - and needs to be done in a very convincing manner.

It's funny how one of the criticisms of the show in the early going was that Ward was "too stiff" of a character. Has to suck to be a writer/producer of a show knowing that it's being criticized for something being done deliberately.

That sounds like a fanboy dream to me.

We do know that Nick Fury will be in the last ep of the season. Plus there's the everpresent hope of Agent Hill becoming a more recurring character, although she did interview for a job at Stark, but maybe she won't get it. Or Talbot just hasn't gotten to her yet.

Don't know if you've watched all the episodes but Sif has already made an appearance. Pretty kickass one too.

Did nobody listen to his whole speech about doing what you have to do to gain trust and work the system so on and so forth. If you just reverse the speech and turn it towards Hydra rather then SHIELD it is completely within reason that Ward has always been part of SHIELD, or that he told Coluson at some point in the past, or that he is acting the "specialist" and working solo to bring down Hydra. Getting Garret won't end Hydra remember the whole cutting off the head bit. The episode to me at least was packed with innuendo that Ward is still SHIELD.

Garrett has always trusted Ward and believes he has his loyalty. If there was someone else he was trying to impress I'd be more inclined to agree with you. But Garrett? No.

Garrett is not Hydra, Garrett is a part of Hyrda, thus the whole cut off the head and two more pop up reference. Ward needs to be in deeper then just with Garret, he needs access to the whole operation, just like Garret needed access to the whole SHIELD operation in order to pull of his role.

The most important conversation in the episode was the one between Garrett and Ward regarding Skye. If Ward was really trying to be a quintuple agent, he never would've admitted the things he did. It would erode his appearance of loyalty, not affirm it.

I want to see Mae kick Ward's teeth in. Hard. I love Mae though so I may be biased. Looks like next new ep is Skye finding out she got played. That'll be pretty interesting.

And Patton Oswalt made the most adorable Shield agent ever. Imo lol. The least threatening one out there lol. I really hope he doesn't die next episode o O #jossdon'tdoitagain

There's a fanboy theory that Oswalt becomes MODOK

I gotta disagree. I think we're seeing the 'real' Ward with Garrett. He may not be 100% committed to Hydra, but he's obviously loyal to Garrett and not some sort of SHIELD triple-agent. He got them into the Fridge murdering who knows how many more SHIELD agents while doing so. And then he gave up the gravitonium, which he had absolutely no need to do. Not even Fury on his worst day would think that trading a secure base full of high-end techno-magical WMD was worth 'infiltrating' Hydra even further, particularly under the current circumstances.

If push comes to shove, Ward (or whatever his real name is) might have trouble killing the team, but he's not any sort of SHIELD super deep-cover operative. While I like what the writers and actor have done with the character over the last couple episodes, IMHO Ward has crossed over the moral event horizon - he's a bad guy now. Maybe one the team can work with when they need to, after he's finally exposed to them, but he's no longer a 'good guy' nor will he be able to be one to this viewer.
