[Mini-rant] Just good of fashion racism!

I'm a 911 call taker for suburb in the arm pit of the east coast, New Jersey.

Just took a call for a "suspicious 13 year-old black kid, knocking at my door." I asked the woman, "Did he say what he wanted?" to which she responded, "No! I'm not going to the door, I'm not taking any chances."

For all we know this kid could be emotionally disturbed or mentally challenged, could be a lost child, could have just watch Mommy get the shit kicked out of her by Daddy and is looking for refuge. Yet, all this women sees is some "black kid" knocking at my door. Heaven forbid you open that door to your $400,000 home in broad daylight.

Here's the fucking kick in the BALLS! That little kid, was returning her LOST DOG who'd shimmied out of her rear yard.

Seriously? We cannot assume that this is racism. We need more evidence than merely, "There's a suspicious thirteen year old black kid knocking on my door". She could just be describing him.

Any thirteen year old child knocks at my door, I'm answering. There's only one reasons she called it "suspicious" and that's the color of his skin. If little Billy Beaver knocked at her door she'd probably have opened it with a warm apple pie and a hug.

    *editted* her = his

It can't be assumed as racist. If she had said "There is some little Nigger at my door" than it would most definitely be racist; but she didn't.

Also, being a 911 operator and disclosing the contents of phone calls you receive on the internet like this, I think is pretty unethical. More than pretty unethical. But I don't want to get an infraction by describing just how unethical I believe it is. I hope this thread gets locked.

I don't see the racism. People are supposed to describe the "threat." No offense, but if you're so easily upset, you're in the wrong field of work.

Someone knocking on your door is a threat now? Especially when you've ascertained that they're a 13 year old kid?

If she wants to be a racist, she's entitled to be a racist.

Why not rant at her rather than on a forum where she can't be made to feel bad for being a terrible person?

How old is the woman? 70s? Have there been any home invasions in her neighborhood recently or robberies? Maybe the kid had some friends hiding in the bushes to rush the door when someone answers it. Bad things happen, and it isn't such a bad thing to be suspicious of someone coming to your door uninvited. I'm not saying you don't answer it, but one should still be aware of the possible situation.

If it's near Camden, it could be understandable considering the majority of dealers there use young kids on bikes for some pretty crazy shit.

Forgive for being callous.. but it's racist now to say "black kid?" Granted, context is everything and we don't know the context at all.

OP, I may be breaking a forum rule here. But I think you're being hypersensitive. Moreover, the fact that you're describing the cost of the house tells me you have an ax to grind and you're just bitter towards the "haves."

Unless it includes information that can identify a certain person involved I don't see any issue...

Maybe she had recently seen this story and was a little frightened.

13 year old means nothing, i know a 13 yr old who is 6ft 1" and looks 20yr +, so as theres no other description of the lad i think this thread is invalid imo, and in todays world if i didnt know them i would ask from an upstairs window. also i hope you get the sack for disclosing confidential emergency calls coz thats pretty low.

A woman who is home alone is scared of opening the door for a random teenager? Its totally understandable that she would be wary of opening the door for him. At 13, its quite possible he was physically stronger and larger than her.

Oh... he's black you say? Well then the only possible reason she is afraid of him is because of his skin color. Everyone knows teenagers, especially black ones, never commit any violent crimes! /sarcasm

Maybe the caller is racist. Its hard to say from the information available. However, it seems pretty likely that the OP is racist based on the prejudice he is demonstrating by assuming the woman's motivations.

No, that's what would make it illegal.

    But regardless it's still unethical.

I see nothing wrong with that. She has no obligation to open the door to anyone, especially people she doesn't know. Why take risks when you dont have to..

Damn, so here we are at a time, when someone knocks on the door we immediately call 911? She could have stood 5 feet from the door and said "what do you want?"
