So on the one hand you have Assad, who is a despot and a tyrant but is (relatively speaking) somewhat stable. On the other hand you have the Syrian rebels who want to set up Syria as essentially a terrorist state that shelters, aids, and supports Jihadist minded thugs and killers. There's no good outcome here.

This is the guy we are supporting.
    Al-Nusra Front leader Abu-Mohammad al-Jolani

In the meeting it was also decided that the militant group of al-Nusra Front only to be joined with so-called Free Syrian Army (FSA) to fight against Syrian army.
CIA operatives have been secretly providing the Syrian militants with training on the use of anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapons for months, The Los Angeles Times reported earlier.
Since the opening of a new US base in the desert in southwest of Jordan in November 2012, the CIA operatives and US special operations troops have covertly trained the militants in groups of 20 to 45 at a time in two-week courses.

In case you didn't know who the Al-Nusra Front was:
The Al-Nusra Front or Jabhat al-Nusra (Arabic: جبهة *ل*صرة لأهل *ل**م‎ Jabhat an-Nuṣrah li-Ahl ash-Shām, "The Support Front for the People of Greater Syria") is an Al Qaeda associate operating in Syria.[8] The group announced its creation on 23 January 2012 during the Syrian civil war.[9] It is described as "the most aggressive and successful arm of the rebel force".[10] The group was designated by the United Nations,[11] the United States in December 2012,[12] Australia in June 2013[13] and the United Kingdom in July 2013[14] as a terrorist organisation. In April 2013, the leader of the Islamic State of Iraq released an audio statement announcing that Jabhat al-Nusra is its branch in Syria.[5] The leader of Al Nusra, Abu Mohammad al-Golani, denied the merger but affirmed their allegiance to Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri.[15] By May 2013, a faction of Jabhat loyal to the Islamic State of Iraq leadership began acting under the name of the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" [16][17][18]

Linking a sensationalist picture designed to elicit a negative emotional response proves nothing. Those are not the rebels we are supporting, and they don't even compose the majority of the Syrian opposition to Louis XVI, err, Bashar Al-Assad's regime.

I eagerly await the shoops of smoldering power plants, dead people and Obama with his arms crossed and sunglasses on saying "Deal with it."

Tired of people acting like living in the U.S. is like living in North Korea or something. We're living in one of the most free, equitable, and prosperous nations of all time, and we're not being gassed by our own government.

It's in our interests to uphold the precedent of severe military consequences for anyone who uses CBRN WMDs.

Tired of the whole Team America thing. So is most of the world. So are most of the Americans.

You can paint the polls as "53% opposed" but that doesn't mean 47% are in favor.

Only 20% are in favor. The poll had other options.

The numbers change if you factor congressional approval into it. 80% of Americans believe that "congressional approval should happen before engagement in any conflict in Syria."

I think it would be more fair to say 80% of Americans believe that "congressional approval should happen before engagement in any conflict".
However that doesnt change the fact that even if congress approves the engagement less than 20% support it.

Polling and awareness of the conflict plays a huge role. Secretary Kerry made an excellent case, along with Secretary Hagel and General Dempsey, today during the Senate hearing regarding why we should intervene. I'm confident that most Americans who were listening to him speak would be convinced in favor of intervention since he laid out a solid case regarding why we should.

I'd be interested in another poll being conducted, it'd very likely be vastly different.

Watched it, still not in favor of it.

His reason for why we should intervene is that sarin gas was used. Somehow he is trying to make the american public think there is evidence Asad used it when there is no such evidence. If they had evidence you don't think they would throw it in everyones face?
