Basically if it's made by Blizzard, chances are it will be successful. The fact that it has potential to attract a vast amount of audiences is also a good thing, but so far we don't really know anything about the game. Have to wait until Blizzcon until we can even begin to form an opinion on the game.
Blizzard created that thing you call ''blind fanboyism'' all by themselves, because all their games are always that good and are always worth trying imo

LoL is WoW of back then not Dota2. Popularity wise Dota 2 is not that close to LoL.

like all the 40 million wow players who jumped ship to other mmos? most of the people who play wow would be interested in this probably dont even know what lol is.

the majority of the wow playerbase doesnt even go on the forums so this would probably be the first moba theyve ever played

or they just want to try something different. gaming companies dont soley exist to make money, sometimes they want to try working on something else.

I really doubt that. People won't leave LOL/DotA for the same reason people don't leave WoW for other games, familiarity and time invested.
I'm a Forsaken. I kill firstborns while their mamas watch. I turn cities into salt. I even, when I feel like it, rip the souls from little girls, and from now till kingdom come, the only thing you can count on in your existence is never understanding why.

We're not talking about passionate artists here, we're talking about Activision-Blizzard a money-making company. They've lost their 'artist' status and attitude ever since WoW became popular.

But yes, their cash cow is running dry. Their entire company infastructure is based on a 8-10m subscribers base in WoW. When it drops below that they need to start finding other sources of income to keep their company alive, lest they must downsize...

The difference is that LoL and DotA are not that much time intensive as an MMO unless you are at the top whereas with WoW it takes you at least a full week's time to reach the end-game with MOBA the end-game is there the moment you jump the boat.

I might give it a shot but I don't see it pulling my attention away from League of Legends. I really like the guys over at Riot.

i think it will fail. Players will just stick to Hon, lol and dota. Its like when its a new mmo game coming out. Ppl will try it. But go back to wow which they have invested 20% of their life in.

i think it will be a success. It will replace LoL.

Will this game be stand-alone or a mod in SC2?

If it helps LoL kill itself I'll be happy. When games regurgitate the same crap over and over again the gaming market's evolution slows down.

Then be in a worse spot than Hon. Blizzard is absolutely terrible with real time pvp games. Only the most frothing at the mouth blizzard fans would even bother to play it after that and/or defend it.
You've heard of starcraft right? Best REAL TIME strategy game in the world, broadcasted on television in south-korea, most balanced game ever made, etc.

the people at blizzard love their games, they have guilds and play with their friends in the games, they arent chained up prisoners being forced to make content 24/7.

again, pokemons the 2nd best selling video game series in the world, it makes them so much money that all the people at gamefreak are set for life, why did they make harmoknight? why are they making that horse racing solitaire game? because some of the developers thought it would be fun to do something besides pokemon.

and people dont lose their "artist status" they are writing multiple novels worth of lore, the designers are designing worlds and creatures and armor and weapons, the encounter team is designing up strategys and game mechanics.

just because you dont like blizzard doesnt mean what they are making isnt art.

You haven't even seen a glimpse of the game yet... And yet LoL is a dota clone so that might be a good thing.

Well i find it funny that Blizzard fans flame every single MMO coming out that is cloning WoW but when Blizzard is doing the exact same it will surely succeed right? And yes LoL is a dota clone, but that did also come out when Dota was still a custom map, and the whole dota-clone market was not that big yet. Now we got a new god damn dota-clone coming out what seems to be every month.

9 times out of 10 its the exact opposite with tons of people posting "x will keel wow" and i dont see that many people in here trying to claim heroes is going to kill lol just saying it will be succesful.

most wow players dont even care about other mmos or what they are doing or whos making them, its only the people who hate wow who are constantly looking for a wow killer who tend to start those arguments

    lolwut ?

In LoL end game start at 30, and even then GL having a few champ + rune page. And it will take you way more than one week (with standard play, not nolife mode)

Please elaborate on that in how it takes you to reach an end-game where it is vaguely any different than what and how are you playing the game then you did at the beginning.

Just because you get to a point by filling up talent points does not deem it the end-game. Heck, almost everything you get through your level-ups are passives to the point that they vaguely effect your 15-60 minute play session that is the match. I've beating the hell out of teams with 15+ levels while at least having a monkey on our team who just slays creeps while giving the opposing side all their kills all the while using a rental hero.

Unless it is the competitive portion of LoL that the minority (Below a million among 40 is minority) of the community take place in, the game almost has no necessary time-investment similar to WoW does.

Though, don't get me wrong as I rarely have any games installed on my both machines and LoL is one of them out of the 5 (With Blizzard games being the 4/3 with no SC being on my mac while the HS being installed with my PC having Marvel Heroes instead of HS). However, the very reason why I like LoL is its similarity with the original DotA as well as zero to none time investment.

I think it'll address the one big barrier to casual gamers playing MOBAs, the learning curve. And it'll be casual. And if they get some good artists, all the vanity skins and items and hats and all sorts of shit will be everywhere.

The question is whether a casual MOBA with no real competitive scene can be financially viable. For Blizzard, with this IP, probably. But if they err too much to the competitive, or try and find that balance where it's somehow both competitive and easy to get into, it might swerve into disaster. Hearthstone is toeing that balance right now, but like someone else said, CCGs are that plentiful, and HS is the most casual CCG out there, even if it can still be competitive.

Can Blizzard make a COMPETITIVE MOBA in line with LoL and DOTA2? Probably not, but I don't think that's what they're aiming for.
