LA Police Taser Father Attempting to Rescue 3 Year Old Son from House Fire – Boy Dies

Ryan Miller and his wife Cathy awoke sometime after midnight to find their Louisiana home on fire. Both were able to escape alive with burns sustained from the blaze. However, as Mr. Miller attempted to return into the inferno to rescue his three year old stepson Riley Miller, a city police officer tasered him three times to keep him from entering. Riley died in the fire and was pronounced dead at Pike Country Memorial Hospital.

Do you think the cop did the right thing by tasering the father?
His son apparently died in the fire.

Well, officer may have saved his life, actually.

they were already burned from exiting the house the first time. Sounds like the fire was out of control at that point. I dont see what having 2 dead people is going to accomplish.

    I shouldn't...but...

Did they have proof the kid was still alive at the time?

Doesn't matter. The parent would have died for the chance to save the child.

Probably not. Said the woman had a burned cornea. If its hot enough to start burning your eyes then no he was probably already dead. If the two survivors were already badly burned then the smoke inhalation would have been even worse.

Imagine if he had a reaction to the tazing and the father died. I don't think they should stop him from maybe saving his son. I'd rather die trying to save my son than to just let him die.

one of those damned if you do, damned if you don't type situation. if the cop thought the chances of the kid still being alive were slim to none I don't think he acted irrationally. I'm not a fan of tazzing people but if it kept him from going back in then it did the job.

indeed, someone dropped the ball on making sure everyone was out in the first place.

Even if the father deserved a chance to save his son, was it not correct by the police man to stop the man from entering the house, to save the man?

From a father's perspective, better to die trying to save your child that to live having done nothing.
