Keurig Machines - How damn lazy do you have to be?!

So.. I am a k-cup hater. I absolutely hate the machines. They make shit coffee that you can only get in one good size. Want a large coffee? Too bad we're a tiny cup so it's going to be weak, you can make normal coffee (normal crappy instant) and you can make over strong coffee. There is also the issue that the temperature of the machine is several degrees lower than what is the gold standard by just about 5 degrees. Then there is the issue that the cups aren't recyclable.

I really don't understand it. I also don't understand the keurig tea?!!! Tea?!!! People are so damn lazy they can't dump a tea bag in a cup anymore they have to stick it in a machine?! I personally find scooping with an infuser with some leaves to be faster than a bag and less hassle as the water just drips right out and with a little vigor it's quite easy to shake most of the water out. Quick rinse and done.

I also am confused by the hot chocolate ones. It's too much to just scoop hot chocolate and add water? Or tear open a package? It just seems incredibly lazy.

There are a couple problems I have.

    Non-recyclable.

    Makes average to crappy coffee

Average coffee that cost the same amount as better beans.

It is advertised as a premium object but it's fucking glorified instant coffee.

There are plenty of other options you can use if you want a single cup, like an aero-press or a french press.

And yes I know there are the reusable cups but they're not main-stream they're not in abundance of use so there is still the issue of billions of cups about.

I'm not sure if you work (not judging), but having K-Cups and Keurig machines at the college I work at is the only sensible thing. Every department has one. We in IT would die without our Kuerig. You really have a beef with this? lol.

You should ad to your list:
    Gaudy appearance
    Excessive use of counter-top space
Double the price of other single serving machines (I can think of the name, it's a round tea bag)

Yeah... No. They make decent coffee, and it's quick. If you had a job (if one at all) that required you to be on time in the early hours, you would understand. I sure as hell value my extra time to sleep instead of brewing a bunch of coffee I'm not going to drink. You plop in a cup, and boom. Coffee in 90 seconds. If you don't like them, don't use it. Nobody cares.

    It's wasteful and ridiculously lazy.

If you want a single serving you can seriously just use an aero-press or a small french press, there are also instant coffee's which taste better than many of the things you can get on a keurig... it's just fad + lazy + waste.

You also must admit using keurig for god damn tea and hot chocolate is ridiculous! There is like minimal work involved in that from the get go.

My girlfriend has one. I don't drink coffee much, but I do use it without a kcup in it to serve some hot water and then drop a tea bag in it. Simply for convenience, as it is quicker, but obviously not useful enough for me to buy one.

Lol seriously... what is with the excuse of "if you had a job" When I was working 15+ hours I used a french press + electric kettle, it takes like no work. Hell you can use an aero press, it's even faster.

It's not about "don't liek them don't use it no one cares" you are ignoring the tremendous issue of non recycle plastic cups being dumped at a rate of 3 billion a year and growing.

Any coffee that is advertised as "large" without even containg milk is probably crap. I really don't understand why Keurig machines are any worse than the rest of them. The amount of people who make a habit of drinking actually decent coffee is infinitesimal.

I don't drink coffee, so I guess I'm doing my part?

They make a little sense in a cubicle office environment I guess, but the waste is just inexcusable. It's the coffee equivalent of drinking bottled water.

I don't think I could get quite this excited about it though.

    dem 15 hour work weeks....

    *EDIT*
and you can buy reusable ones, I have one and it makes pretty good coffee. People buy them for the convenience over anything, not like it affects you so I don't really get why you're so upset over it.

    Each day

You realize there is the issue of the use of billions of non-recyclable cups to make instant coffee... and all this by a company that is suppose to be "green" and eco friendly lol. The hypocrisy is ridiculous.

It's not about decent coffee as much as it is about glorified instant coffee lol. Instant coffee you dump 2 tps into hot water is fine with me, it's not wasteful, it's not fancy, it's not faddy, it just is some okay instant coffee that takes no time, little waste, you generally get what you pay for, and it isn't wasteful in the slightest, unlike this machine.

Yeah, so why exactly would I want to take all that time to whip out a french press, kettle, straining and all that other nonsense to make a cup of coffee? My time is more valuable when I'm getting out of bed at 6am than to waste it on that. I'd rather spend less than 2 minutes for a cup of coffee than to press it myself for 10, then have to wash all that shit every day.

As far as your claim on recycling issues, here's a shocking new development that should blow your mind: http://www.amazon.com/Keurig-K-Cup-R.../dp/B000DLB2FI

Say it with me "convinience" when at work this one thing is what surpasses all other things! All of your points are correct and they are true however none of them TOUCH keurig on the convinience factor it brings to the table and as such in a work environment wins out time and again! For yourself it may not be an issue to use the french press then after clean it out etc etc however where I am it's a hell of a lot easyer to fill up the water container and toss out the cups > doing all teh cleaning involved with the other options!

And what's the deal with so many people drinking coffee, tea, energy drinks to "wake up"? Is everyone so lazy that you can't just get the hell up like I do?

The coffee is a bit forgivable (barely I think it's ridiculous as well as an aeropress + kettle makes coffee in one minute if we're talking about quick + convenience there already is an option for that, which makes coffee that is better than what you can get out of this machine.) But tea? and hot chocolate? That's like the height of laziness. Tea bags and tearing open a package isn't soooo hard that you need to use this for it lol.

We get all sorts of K-Cups, and our budget allows us to get expensive, tasty ones. I still don't understand the beef. So you want us to brew coffee in the morning in IT? What is this 2005?

Keurigs do also need to be cleaned.

In any case, tea bags are convenient. I don't see how a keurig machine is "more" convenient than a tea bag. It's unnecessary waste. Put bag in cup, put hot water from the water cooler in cup, bam tea! Why does a keurig need to be used for that is beyond me.

This seems like a bad Seinfeld bit if they were still on.

"What's with those KEURIG MACHINES! I mean.. they make coffee. They're convenient.. what's with them!" (read in Seinfeld's voice)
