    US: NBC did it again....

Just finished watching the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics.

And once again, NBC has done the same bullshit, they've already pulled 2 years ago.

Around the globe the event is broadcasted live. But apparently the USA are part of another planet or something. At least that seems to be the idea of NBC..... No opening ceremony here in the US.

That's embarrassing, and somehow symptomatic for the media landscape in the US. Information is only available as the media suits fit, and when they believe it suits.

It's not whether one likes it or not. It's the principle that counts here. Speaking of freedoms.... Freedom of information suffers greatly in that sense..

Edit: I've watched a European stream...
And this is not a pissing contest against the US itself, it's about the horrible media in the country.

TV stations can broadcast what they want. The Olympics aren't some special thing that can be broadcast whenever they want.

The solution is not to watch Television. You can get pretty much anything on the internet these days anyway.

I can, and obviously I did... Doesn't change the situation though. Many people cannot, and I believe it's an obligation for a public broadcasting company to broadcast in a timely manner. They've got a lot of heat 2 years ago with the Summer Olympics over it already. But apparently they don't give a shit.

I love the crack at freedom as though there are no other choices than to wait for the NBC broadcast of it.

Eh, neither do I. If anything, they're making sure it's broadcast during a time when people who don't have the ability to watch it whenever on the internet will be able to see it.

I am mad because of the censorship...
US broadcast will happen in 7 hours from now, and cherry picked censored as the network pleases.. Gotta look a little further than "I don't like the Olympics, I don't care"...
Anything and everything that goes on outside the US borders is either delayed or extremely censored. That's the point.
People in the country aren't even aware of it for the most part, how the media networks manipulate the content we get.

They choose to show the opening ceremonies in prime time to get the most bang for their buck. They said that everything will be streamed live online, if you want to watch the events in real time.

    Who cares, move on.

The heat they got was more in reference to the bits of it they cut out.

Another thing, most of the countries who had it aired live, well, they are near that time zone. The USA is not. The Opening Ceremony for Olympics held in the US, as of 2002, were aired on a time delay in most major EU countries.

For NBC to air it in the early afternoon, late morning, it would've not given the proper attention to the event. Friday night in prime time is an appropriate time. It's the same day. Let's not act like this is intended to avoid any Russia slamming the US. We'd air the crap out of that here.

Last World Cup was broadcast in the U.S. butt early in the a.m., was not easy to enjoy with a regular day schedule. The Olympics are a cash bid for NBC, most viewers watch during "prime time," so it will pull the greatest ad revenue at that time. Don't need to worry about Russia forcing it on us.

You do realize the time zone difference right? I watched the Olympics last night with my wife and daughter and Bob cost as mentioned they are 9 hours ahead in Sochi so if you want to watch live it is on nbc.com. Not to mention considering the fact we both live in iowa that makes it 10 hour time difference so if an event starts at noon in Sochi then they would have to broadcast live at 2am here. Most working class people aren't up at that time to watch sports.

You ASSUME it'll be censored. Let's just wait and see. You're missing the bigger picture here.

It's not about censorship, it's about money.

    No....
European here, and I am used to have international events broadcasted live the moment they happen. It's like that for as long as I can think...
Time difference has zero to do with it.
What amuses me however - but then probably not unexpected given we're online here - how many don't seem to grasp how millions of people cannot go online at will. And if they can, it's a difference to watch something in high quality on a TV screen or a computer stream, which is usually less quality.

But well, I guess........ After all, sometimes I might just be too European still, since I won't get used to such castration of information flow...

That isn't really an argument. All events over here get broadcast live, even if they're at 2am. The repeats are then shown at hours that suit people.

See and I am used to TV networks broadcasting such event 24/7... You will never miss out on anything, no matter how your day goes. If you wanna watch it live, just get up and do so, otherwise, it'll re-run later again.
Has nothing to do with Russia forcing it on us at all..... These events always take place, and always local time is the guideline.
