Where can I find a refresher course in this game.

So I have been playing this game since 2010, and I have never really got any better then a silver league player. All of my friends are at least platinum who have played this game as long as me, but I just can't seem to get better at the game. I'm willing to admit I suck bad at THIS game, but other progressive games like DOTA 2, i'm slowly climbing up in MMR and just having a better time because of it. However, nostalgia keeps me hooked to this game, so I would enjoy some tips as to what to do to stop being so prideful and actually learn from my mistakes. My league name is Ragu if you want to search me for errors i'm making.

Your cs is bad most of the time. 151 at 38mins in the Urgot game is horrendous. Your item choices are pretty weird sometimes. Stinger on Cho'gath, Locket on garen, Zeke's herald etc. You die way too much, 9deaths, 7 deaths etc.

What i would suggest is:

1.) Watch the lcs/pro youtubers (i personally watch oddone's junglevideos sometimes). It helps you learn the game, and watch how the pro's do it.
2.) Stop caring about winning. You will rise in rank overtime, just like you do in Dota.
3.) Dont blame your teammates. It's hard sometimes, but it's not worth it.
4.) Dont give up in games. If your team goes 0/10 in the first 15 minutes, there's still a chance to come back.

E: And mostly focus on a couple of champion and mostly in one role. You play way too many random champions for like 1-2 games. Just find a champion and you really like playing and stick to them.

I think my problem is that i'm too set in not following metas and building really old items on champs, at least one of them is.

Stop doing it then. You can still play non-meta champions and rank up, but it's easier to do it with champions that are strong.

Also builds are really important, as they are in any moba game. You wouldnt build a daedalus on OD in Dota now would you?

Just a quick update: I've only used 3 rune pages since, well, the beginning of the game, but they're obviously so out of date that it's foolish to keep using them. I still think that my 13 ad, 7.7 arp and 13 armor ( ithink) works still, my other pages blow cotton balls. As said above, my screen name is Rage (ditto for Dota 2) for advice, or if your a low silver player looking for some fun duoing. Can play all lanes!

Basic ADC page is AD reds, lifesteal quints, armor yellows, scaling MR blues

APC is Magic pen reds, AP quints, armor yellows, scaling AP blues/scaling MR blues.

Anything else really really varies, for an AD jungler or AD top you can go AD reds, AD quints, armor yellows, scaling MR blues

Urgot requires a very specific teamcomp to be effective, and that's not good in soloque. Doesent mean he's unplayable, but it's easier to carry with the more popular adc's.

Well if you abuse his mid game people often underestimate that, I can agree with your point partially outside of the fact that Urgot is a monster mid game.

That has nothing to do with anything, most Urgot's I meet have no idea how to play him. You abuse his mid game poke, in fact he's not bad with the common picks such as Morgana and Nidalee but everything else aside, if I were you OP learn to play Renekton top lane, very good champion currently.

Because of this, I have no choice but to play every role. BTW, my team banned tryn shen and blitz. This is going to hurt, BAD. Will post in a few for the final score which we prolly lost!

I would recommend watching some streams to sort of see what the meta is right now and what people are building and so on. Since you already know how to play the game it's a good way to figure out what people are doing right now.

UNSWLOLSOC on youtube. This guy is thorough and will teach you to be a better player. But be prepared for some long lectures. I went from Bronze V to Silver I last season due to what I learned. I highly recommend checking him out.

So this game im in right now, our top chooses cait. Ya know, if this was 2010, pre season 1, I couldn't give a shit, cause there was no real meta yet. But now? No hope, it's a cute concept, but the goths are right. Darkness is the only real thing in this game. No light, no hope.

I really don't know how I'm still clinging to the ledge of pain that is silver 5, but all I know is that if I keep playing, I will eventually fall into despair. I think I'm just so unwilling to change from the past of this game. My builds are extremely out of date, I haven't made a new rune page since 2011, and I'm just too prideful and depressed at this game to heed advice. I'm stuck in a rut that I;m probably the only person that can crawl out of it. But I think that the thing. I'm so god damned nostalgic bout "the good 'ol days" that I cling to its lifeless corpse like a dead lover. Sigh. Maybe I should just quit. Maybe the game has evolved past my aging frame.

Besides, I have a 4k mmr in dota 2, which is fairly ok. And there's The Stick of Truth that needs playing. And I still have fun modding Skyrim. Huh, maybe this tunnel can open up towards a New Dawn...maybe...just...maybe....

Well... You seem to have gained habits over the years, most of which are holding you down. You should try and make a new account perhaps, level it for the fresh experience of playing with all kinds of players. It is refreshing. Then when you get to the placement matches at lvl 30, you just need to win at least 50% and then you will be placed in Silver III. It is 2 leagues higher. You will be a new player.

Is 4k mmr good in Dota 2? I tried that game but I just couldn't get into it, kind of hard balancing both games when you need to play one or the other to rise in the ladder.

I would LIKE to be a creative writer, but it's impractical, so i'm doing Technical Communication....so boring....

In the case of DOTA 2, it's ok. I'd say its equivalent to high gold, but not quite low plat. I seem to be a rare exception, because I can swap to either game at will, which may be why im doing so bad in LoL; i'm carrying over strats from their to here. But it is much harder to get into, deny's, wind up on spells and auto attacks, ability canceling is much more crucial, abilities don't scale, the fact that supports feel useful.....

By the way, it's going much better for me in LoL. Turns out if you play your main (Taric support or top) you win. Too bad it's your fault your ADC sucks and you have to take the kills and become the carry. Fun Fact: get a zephyr as your last item. Gives you tenacity, movement speed, and you really need the bit of attack speed to proc your passive faster. But this is kinda trolly any higher then silver, so ignore your team when applicable.
