Comming back to raiding after a long hiatus, raid class selection

    Hello ladies and gents,
i just wanted to share my thought with someone as most of my WoW buddies became pure WoW haters

With Warlords approaching, i decided to make a big comeback to the game, try and find a home with my character make guild friends again etc. However, as my lack of experience with how the game is/was etc i decided to ask you guys for some help and advice.

Coming back to the raiding scene, i am looking for a stable class, a class that will not necessarily top the meters but it will be stable throughout the expansion and it will not require that much of skill to be played in a top tier level.

Personally what came to mind is the Hunter, a class i also enjoyed quite much. But as i said, i might be extremely wrong so i could use your advice and point of view guys.

    Cheers

Every class and specialisation is able to perform in heroic content. Which class and specialisation you play is your choice only. We can't decide for you what you should play.

Play what you enjoy, everything is viable.

Your idea seems quite good actually since most screwing around hunters is done between specs, the class overall doesn't jump too much indeed.

Hunter is a great choice for what your looking for. But after playing one in MoP I got very bored of the class.
Their three specs are very similar and only swap out one or two spells. If you want a bit more diversity I'd recommend a class with at least noticeable differences between the specs.

Want to top meters on every single fight this tier? Go lock.

Sure if you want to be bottom dps every fight go shadow or ret but if you actually want to be useful dps then you might not want to YOLO pick a random spec.

MM is not viable in most fights this tier. Arms is not viable most fights his tier. Sorry you're wrong.

    Warlock or hunter.

This expansion warlock has been the best choice for almost everything. It has a really easy spec (destro) and the others are not much complex to master. Warlocks received this expansion a lot of changes, so in WoD they are gonna be (probably) the class with less changes overall.

About hunters, blizzard has said that they want to make changes to each spec to have more differences between each other.

At this stage you'll have nothing to do but run in circles 1000000 times on Timeless Isle and kill every boss 100000 times in LFR before you have enough gear to get into flex and Normal Modes. At which point the expansion will be over and WoD will be out. You'll be burnt out from all that effort that didn't really get you anywhere.

Don't ruin it for yourself - Sub when WoD hits.

There is a difference between optimal and viable. All specs can contribute to clearing content. Progressions where every bit of DPS counts is something else of course.
I have played MM on many bosses because they are on farm and did respectable DPS.

No MM hunter has ever successfully completed 10 H garrosh. Proof that MM is not viable.

    2. on 90% of the fights this tier your MM dps is going to be way below everyone elses unless you raid with terrible players. That's not viable. When you're doing 200-250k dps and everyone else in your raid is 350k+, you're not viable. You're dead weight being carried.

Ignore this hyperbole of a post.

Play what you want, if you learn and master it Warlock is in a very good place this expansion.

jeffseid's post is a bit hyperbolic but it's basically right. I've never understood people who sit out the entire expansion then come back in the weird lull between the last tier and the next expac when raiding is winding down because the tier's old, but there's a lot of time until the next expansion. It's a bad time to get into raiding in any serious manner (i.e. normal and heroic in this expac). Now, if you want to LFR... it doesn't matter. Flex runs seem to want high gear and I simply would not spend time gearing a toon now so you can run some flex.

OP - we can't tell you what you'll like. Play what you like.

Read FAQ before you make a new post. As clevin said, no one can tell you which class you should play, everyone has their preferences and opinions on various things.
