Blizzard also never gives dates, but this time they have. That's the worst possible case scenario date. It's naive to assume that it will be released on the first day of fall, but it's also pretty foolish to assume that the worst possible scenario date is the actual release date.
The 15th of April is the last day to mail your income tax forms, yes. The 20th of December is the day that Blizzard picked as their worst case scenario date that, in their minds, they cannot possibly miss no matter how much of a clusterfuck happens during testing. Things could go so horrifically wrong at Blizzard that they release the expansion in late December, and people can be lazy and scramble to the post office on the 15th to mail their income tax forms in. Alternatively some people like myself do their income tax in like February, and Alpha/Beta could be smooth sailing for Blizzard and they release WoD in October.

Nothing but more Blizzard lies.
They have said that every expansion since Wrath of the Lich King, and yet content has not come any faster. They say that to draw customers back in, yet the content droughts keep coming. It is unacceptable to a game that charges monthly to do that.
Which is why I have cancelled my account, and am switching to Wildstar this weekend. If WoD is a huge success I will give it a whirl, but when it comes to Blizzard, I believe it only when I see it.
Also, has no one paid attention to Blizzard saying "Alpha/Beta mean nothing for this expansion?" and things like "Alpha builds are not indicative of how far along WoD is?"
It seems like a lot of Blizzards customers have difficulty with reading comprehension.
People should actually read what is said, instead of making stuff up.
Blizzard said the game would release FALL 2014, which means, it will be released between 23/09/14 AND 22/12/14. It can be any date during fall. It's not really HARD to comprehend.
More, that rumor post is so badly written that i can not actually believe a word it said, but who knows. Stranger things have happened.
Why is everyone so quick to defend a company that rips its fan base off? They want us to wait 18 months playing the same old content 15x18=$270.00
So we are going to pay around $200 dollars for the same content we already paid $60 dollars for.....and what are we waiting for? An expansion with mostly reused models (elementals, different animals, weapons recolored) which is going to be priced at the cost of a full game. I don't support Blizzard and I hope their game dies.
This is mostly correct. They've switched it up a bit recently with how they label and handle Alphas. WoD is in Alpha at the moment, but supposedly much further along than previous Alphas. Heroes of the Storm is in Alpha, but random people (myself included, and I'm not a friend or family member of a Blizzard employee, operator of a fansite, streamer, youtuber, etc.) are getting invites for it, so there are exceptions.
I hope your adventures in Wildstar are much better than mine were.
Because they're only ripping the fans off if the fans let them? If you run out of things to do and don't find the game to be fun anymore, you can always stop paying them for it. That's what I did. Would I like to see more content? Yes, yes I certainly would. I would have liked for them to have kept producing content at the rate that they produced content prior to SoO.
Blizzard has serious issues managing resources for some reason, and that's unfortunate, but I can't attribute it to greed or malice, just that someone, somewhere in Blizzard, is incompetent.
