It's always a bad sign when your government needs specialized software in order to find out if someone is being sarcastic or not.

    I am being sarcastic now.

Wasn't that discontinued with the abandonment of Windows XP?

We asked "Are you a spy?" and the sarcasm detector says...that was a sarcastic retort.
We then asked "Who are you working for" and the sarcasm detector says, that was sarcasm.
Finally we asked "Do you think we are idiots?" Where I am from we call it a full house, that was sarcasm.

A sarcasm detector seems like an odd thing to create though.

It's so when I post something sarcastic on Twitter like:

"I can't believe Obama keeps allowing drone strikes, we should bomb the White House and see how he likes it."

The Secret Service doesn't show up at my house and rabf casd

They presumably don't want the "explode on overload" feature.

    I say its Imposiblu.

    Sarcazm is almost trolling.
Troll detection machine would be much easer to make.
    Don't sweat the details!!!

I don't know how they plan on doing it because even people fail to notice sarcasm online never mind an automated machine.

The again , technology is amazing in this day and age.

Is it really that hard to detect sarcasm the old fashioned way? I've always found it pretty easy.

    :
I disagree. Maybe if you have never read a book in your life, it might be difficult. But otherwise authors don't always "he said sarcastically" sarcasm in their dialogue. You have to figure out the tonality of the dialog via other clues, such as choices of words, etc.

For example if you said "there's bed bugs in my ice cream" I would refer to the fact that bed bugs are blood eaters and don't consume carbohydrates; thus there is no reason to find bed bugs in icecream and that you are therefore being a troll.

Reading is more than just subvocalizing the words without any considerations.

You disagree that ''sometimes'' sarcasm can be difficult to tell? That's a bit black or white.

I have seen so many people on this forum take sarcasm as a serious comments.
