Deep inside these burning buildings voices die to be heard
Years we spent teaching a lesson we ourselves have never learned
And if strength is born from heart brake then mountains I could move
If walls could speak I'd pray that they would tell me what to do

If you see me please just walk on by, forget my name and I'll forget it too
Failed attempts at living simple lives are what keep me coming back to you

No signs of life here, save the embers, the occasional flame
We'd know the way but can't remember, conception to the grave
Shout confessions from the greatest heights where no one can hear
All my fears, my insecurities are falling like tears

    The drones all slave away
    They're working overtime
    They serve a faceless queen
    They never question why
Disciples of a god that neather lives nor breathes
But we have bills to pay
    Yeah, have mouths to feed

    Drones-rise against

    "Good evening, ladies and gentlemen
I have a story to tell you, of one's slow decline
When a girl yanked on the strings to break this man's heart

Oh lord I think I deserve a little better than this
    I think I've earned it
So I'll just keep humming this song and hope you follow

Turn me over, roll me 'round
To find the truth that I don't want found
Oh, don't believe everything you hear
I'm the snake waiting for you, dear
And eventually you'll come to me
    I know you will

    Oh, I know you will

You're lipstick crazy, I'll make my pass
The drink turns over, the glass smashed
And with a kindness and my smarts I replaced your pleasure
With a friend at the bottom

Turn me over, roll me 'round
To find the truth that I don't want found
Oh, don't believe everything you hear
I'm the snake waiting for you, dear
And eventually you'll come to me
    I know you will

Oh, it's my fate to be your biggest mistake
Oh, I tell you all you want to hear until you sleep
    I know you will

    Oh, goodnight
    Oh, goodnight, fair lady

Oh, turn me over, roll me 'round
To find the truth that I don't want found
Oh, don't believe everything you hear
I'm the snake waiting for you, dear
And eventually you'll come to me
And eventually you'll come to me

Oh, we can agree to disagree
Well maybe that was you, then, and now this is me
Eventually you'll come to me, baby
    I know you will"

    "Sacred Heart" by DIO

Hey the old ones speak of winter the young ones praise the sun and time just slips away
Oh running into nowhere turning like a wheel and a year becomes a day
Whenever we dream that's when we fly so here is a dream for just you and I
We'll fin the sacred heart somewhere bleeding in the night yeah
Look for the light and find the sacred heart
Oh here we see the wizard staring through the glass and he's pointing right at you
Now you can see tomorrow the answer and the lie and the things you've got to do yeah
Oh sometimes you never fall and ah you're the lucky one
But oh sometimes you want it all you've got to reach for the sun
And find the sacred heart somewhere bleeding in the night oh look to the light
Well you fight to kill the dragon and bargain with the beast and sail into a sight
You run along the rainbow and never leave the ground and still you don't know why
Whenever you dream you're holding the key it opens the door to let you be free yeah
And find the sacred heart somewhere bleeding in the night yeah
Run for the light and you'll find the sacred heart
A shout comes from the wizard the sky begins to crack and he's looking right at you quick
Run along the rainbow before it turns to black attack
And oh sometimes you never fall and ah you're the lucky one
Oh sometimes you need it all you've got to reach for the sun
And find the sacred heart yeah bleeding in the night yeah yeah
    We'll find the sacred heart

    "Heart Of Gold"

    I want to live,
    I want to give
I've been a miner for a heart of gold.
    It's these expressions
    I never give
That keep me searching for a heart of gold.

    And I'm getting old.
Keep me searching for a heart of gold
    And I'm getting old.

    I've been to Hollywood
    I've been to Redwood
I crossed the ocean for a heart of gold.
    I've been in my mind,
    It's such a fine line
That keeps me searching for a heart of gold.

    And I'm getting old.
Keeps me searching for a heart of gold
    And I'm getting old.

Keep me searching for a heart of gold.
You keep me searching and I'm growing old.
Keep me searching for a heart of gold
I've been a miner for a heart of gold.

    "Like A Rolling Stone"

Once upon a time you dressed so fine
You threw the bums a dime in your prime, didn’t you?
People’d call, say, “Beware doll, you’re bound to fall”
You thought they were all kiddin’ you
    You used to laugh about
    Everybody that was hangin’ out
Now you don’t talk so loud
Now you don’t seem so proud
About having to be scrounging for your next meal

    How does it feel
    How does it feel
    To be without a home
    Like a complete unknown
    Like a rolling stone?

You’ve gone to the finest school all right, Miss Lonely
But you know you only used to get juiced in it
And nobody has ever taught you how to live on the street
And now you find out you’re gonna have to get used to it
    You said you’d never compromise
With the mystery tramp, but now you realize
    He’s not selling any alibis
As you stare into the vacuum of his eyes
And ask him do you want to make a deal?

    How does it feel
    How does it feel
    To be on your own
    With no direction home
    Like a complete unknown
    Like a rolling stone?

You never turned around to see the frowns on the jugglers and the clowns
When they all come down and did tricks for you
You never understood that it ain’t no good
You shouldn’t let other people get your kicks for you
You used to ride on the chrome horse with your diplomat
Who carried on his shoulder a Siamese cat
Ain’t it hard when you discover that
He really wasn’t where it’s at
After he took from you everything he could steal

    How does it feel
    How does it feel
    To be on your own
    With no direction home
    Like a complete unknown
    Like a rolling stone?

Princess on the steeple and all the pretty people
They’re drinkin’, thinkin’ that they got it made
Exchanging all kinds of precious gifts and things
But you’d better lift your diamond ring, you’d better pawn it babe
You used to be so amused
At Napoleon in rags and the language that he used
Go to him now, he calls you, you can’t refuse
When you got nothing, you got nothing to lose
You’re invisible now, you got no secrets to conceal

    How does it feel
    How does it feel
    To be on your own
    With no direction home
    Like a complete unknown
    Like a rolling stone?

I dunno, there's a lot of great lines out there I probably can't remember. Especially about love... but this is one that echoes in my head.

"There are places I remember all my life, though some have changed. Some forever, not for better, some have gone and some remain"

Ignorance is bliss no wise woman's failed to mention
and surely some koan suggests 'neglect leads to perfection'
but the more I turn my face from the crowd
the more I feel my backs' increasingly compelled
for the sake of escape, to turn a knife on itself,
a knife of relief, from all the petty insight
and finally I'll sleep, I'll sleep through the night.
Bored as fuck with this street corner-cover.
study of a face in a figure. surveying this language as a game
surveilence of this language as the plague.
    the dimension of persistence condemns.
This portrait of karma, crafted in accident
text book seduction, minus the text in the language of ghosts
and so we ran, like the wolves were biting,
the inhibitions of their prey kept them from screaming
scratch my back and I will stab you in yours
so I chose to live this life alone, without the teeth marks
but I predict, I'll have to sink my fangs in someone else's heart to heal my own.
just a victim's split, one part for the wolves, one part for you.
but I'll grow weary soon, weary of this fractal code,
weary of this hallway lined with ghosts.
just a scratch upon the skin, a drop of blood to let them in
their words will cause the sweetest fracture from a stone's throw
just a scratch upon the skin, a drop of blood to welcome them
parasitic, viral critics, or lovers, like spirits mingling in the mist
that we crafted, a starving jury, let them eat shit from our trembling hands.
The heat for heat's sake, on this Barnard block of Congress
deductively speaking, the polar of progress
well maybe I put too much faith in the accident
entranced, we danced toward the ripest display of escape
let the starving ghosts feats, from this flesh, from these bones,
let them all feast. In this chess game of language, forced to sit so I play all alone, watch the bathos drift forth like the petals from a wild crafted rose.

Not very popular or well-known, but very underrated and from one of the greatest songwriters this world has seen:

    Bruce Springsteen - Blood Brothers.

We played king of the mountain out on the end
The world come chargin' up the hill, and we were women and men
Now there's so much that time, time and memory fade away
We got our own roads to ride and chances we gotta take
We stood side by side each one fightin' for the other
We said until we died we'd always be blood brothers

Now the hardness of this world slowly grinds your dreams away
Makin' a fool's joke out of the promises we make
And what once seemed black and white turns to so many shades of gray
We lose ourselves in work to do and bills to pay
And it's a ride, ride, ride, and there ain't much cover
With no one runnin' by your side my blood brother

On through the houses of the dead past those fallen in their tracks
Always movin' ahead and never lookin' back
    Now I don't know how I feel, I don't know how I feel tonight
If I've fallen 'neath the wheel, if I've lost or I've gained sight
I don't even know why, I don't know why I made this call
Or if any of this matters anymore after all

But the stars are burnin' bright like some mystery uncovered
I'll keep movin' through the dark with you in my heart
    My blood brother

Cortez the Killer - Neil Young

Someone also mentioned "Echoes" already, which is possibly my favorite Floyd song of all time. Just beautiful harmony.

I also love "Time", but in particular the observation made toward the end of the song with the line "Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way" says so much about the English culture. People would prefer to wait out the bad times in hope for change, rather than doing something about it. Quite arguably one of the most encapsulating lyrics of all time.

Johnny, rosin up your bow and play your fiddle hard
'Cause Hell's broke loose in Georgia and the Devil deals the cards
And if you win you get this shiny fiddle made of gold
But if you lose the devil gets your soul

Not entirely sure if that counts as rock.
