Ear gauges..why?

If you take them out..will it eventually close up like an ear piercing?

Some of the smaller ones will of course close up a little bit, but ... some of the bigger ones are just stupid.

Sadly, not only are the bigger ones unable to close up; but, in the UK at least, I believe a surgical procedure must be carried out (at taxpayer's expense) to undo the damage wrought by such a stupid decision.

Depends on the size, but generally over a 2 they never fully close.

Honestly normal piercing, tattoos, the lot, is fine. But these damn things are just stupid, they literally ruin your flesh and look horrific. Piercings and tattoos can enhance a look, and be quite flattering on some. Never seen a gauge that wasn't horrible.

Because 'Old People' did it in their generation. Kids must always outdo their parents.

When i was 14 i was shitfaced at a party and pierced my left ear with an exact-o knife on a dare. Back then we just did stupid shit to rebel and/or to impress our friends. Nowadays kids have social media. If they take their stupidity to the next level they might get noticed on Facebook. (Or in an interweb forum.)

Why do people wear jewelry?
For me, my lobes accentuate my features quite nicely.
And depending on the size they might not close at all, mine are about an inch (24mm) and doubt they'll ever close if I take 'em out, especially since they've been that size for close to 15 years now.
