First openly gay NFL draftee Michael Sam cut by Rams

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-29001290

Now is it because he's gay or is it because he's bad?

    He's a seventh-round draft pick, isn't he?

The team most likely realized he's not a very valuable player.

Now, will that stop the homophobia card from being played? Probably not.

They cut 22 others too, was it because they were straight or because they were bad?

They had too many players, they cut 23 people total. It sucks for them though because it was last minute and they most likely can't get a team now.

Personally I don't feel it was sexuality based but I can see the potenial issues

I can think of several reasons:
    1. His presence in the team makes the other players uncomfortable.
    2. He wasn't as good as the other options.

Sports are multimilion $ bussiness, no team owner will turn down a good player without a good reason.

Player who got 1/2 his sacks against Ark. State and Toledo, and another 3 against a really under performing (but still talented) Florida line in college, while getting shut out vs most other teams, who had a bad combine, followed by a decent showing against 2nd/3rd string players (which he could do nothing about, those were the snaps he was given) was cut. That is the how it works, he was drafted to one of the best D-Lines in the league, the one thing he has going for himself, he showed he could hussle and play with a high motor.
If he isn't picked up off the waiver wire, when injuries start piling up, a guy with decent size and a high motor will likely find his number called.

EDIT: I am fairly certain they cut all their 7th round picks also.

Over 1000 players have been cut from all teams combined in this preseason (which is normal actually). We can debate if it had to do with Michael Sam's sexuality, but no one will debate it for the other 1000 because they were (allegedly) straight. You have to remember, Michael Sam is probably NOT the first gay man involved with the NFL, just the first OPENLY gay man.

I think out of thousands of players/coaches/etc it should be a lot more than 1. Whether Sam was cut for the wrong reasons or not is a smaller issue then the borderline "don't ask don't tell" vibe

I imagine 30-40% of NFL players are gay/bi

Just curious what makes you guess such a large number? That is a lot higher then percent of population isn't it?
I borderline feel this is a post meant to incite angry/aggitated responses then a actual guess, but I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt.

If you don't think it's to do with his sexuality, why did you mention it in the title?

because despite misconceptions physical sport is hugely popular among gay men and not because of that. also why would it incite anger? lol

He was also the last draft pick just so the Rams could get the publicity from drafting him. It was a sympathy and attention draft. He sucks in more ways than one

They always felt he was too small for the NFL.

Having lived in Weston Florida, and knowing or running across many NFL guys, he very well was.

Gay icon or not, you don't want to see him get destroyed by players that outskill and outweigh him by nearly double.

Given the passionate fan base the NFL has, and if you've ever cruised other webstie comment boards, then a guess that large seems to be fishing for Chris Culliver like responses. I maybe wrong and if so, I apologize but given the number of people (and not you the limited amount of comments of yours I remember reading) who bait each other on forum boards, it is not unheard of.
But 1/3 seems like a fairly large guess still given there is roughly 1600 plus active roster players (53 players per team for 32 teams) and 1/3 of them would put the number around 500 plus bi/gay players, I imagine there would be a bit more outreach if it was that large. 1/10 seems much more realistic maybe even 1/5 who honestly find themselves questionable.
