Well..first you need to recognize that not all men are attracted to women, and not all women are attracted to men.

Once you have that sorted out, you can easily recognize that not all people are attracted to the same things.

Women want different things than men. If women wanted soft supple bodies, men would have evolved to have soft supple bodies. As far as I can tell, not being a woman myself, they want strong hard muscles, chiseled jaws and steely eyes. A man who looks strong and protective.

Of course, tastes are going to vary from individual to individual, but that's the vibe I get when my sisters talk about men they think are sexy.

What each individual woman is attracted to is different depending on the individual, but, like with male preferences, there is a biological underpinning to them.

Men generally like women who are healthy looking. (these days it's a good booty, tan, nice sized breasts and the color red)

Women are a bit pickier and want a man who is also healthy looking, (Lean, muscles, tan, tall) but also whom can be the best provider. (Nice house, job, car, etc.)

It's all a throwback, an unconscious instinctual underpinning to our preferences as creatures that reproduce sexually. In times passed, our evolutionary ancestors would look for the best possible mate (for females) and any healthy mate (for males). Females would hold out for the biggest, strongest male with the most territory, and only settle for the lesser males if they had to. Because the females have a more involved role in reproduction, they have to be choosier with their mate. While the males were not so picky, preferring any female that looked to be of reproductive age and healthy, as more reproductive partners created a better chance of passing on their genes.

Of course our advanced human brains, modern culture and societal rules obfuscate these simple natural tenants, leading to diversity in just what constitutes attractive. "Healthy" could be washboard abs and a Bruce Campbell chin.. or, it could be being really fat because food is scarce. The ability to provide could be literal (i.e money or the trappings thereof) or it could be implicit, such as a good personality, (nurturing) recklessness, (bravery) or intelligence. (to name but a few)

Depending on where you are in the world and at what time, the pieces in the game of sex change, (where once being pale was a sign of opulence and wealth, the new thing is being tan. Where once being fat meant being successful, it now means one is lazy. etcetera.) but the basic rules (instincts) are all still the same regardless of the time or place.
