Ashbringer in Diablo 3?

Was going through the recent datamined info on patch 2.2 which is currently on the PTR. Reading through the flavor text for the new legendaries i came across this...

Unique_Sword_2H_104_x1: Stories tell of a great paladin who wore a single gauntlet of silver and wielded a mighty sword with a flashing jewel. He dispatched thousands of Risen Dead and Wretched Mothers, but fell to a tragic end. This sword bears some resemblance to the legends, but its jewel is dark and threatening. Perhaps there is more to the story?

Could they be talking about Alexandros Mograine? The "single gauntlet of silver" a reference to the Knights of the Silver Hand(Mograine being one of it's leaders). Meaning the weapon is the Corrupted Ashbringer

Now they could of course, be referring to a character and weapon from Diablo lore(which i admit i know very little of) but i really hope it is in fact the Ashbringer as i can't wait to see my crusader wielding it

Also, they datamined the special power, it's in fact the Corrupted AshbringeR (it changes shape).

My biggest regret in WoW is that I didn't get a Corrupted Ashbringer from original Naxx. At least I can get it in D3 now.

Is Warcraft and Diablo suppose to share the same lore? I never heard of this before now. I know there is a Starcraft?Warcraft overlap with the Tauren and Murloks. But this is indeed the first time I see something from Blizzard's -craft franchises in the Diablo franchise lore.

I am a moderator of the Guild Wars 2 sub forum only. I do not play World of Warcraft- never caught my fancy.

The only Blizzard franchise I personally enjoy are Diablo. It is the only one I know anything about.

If memory serves, Fencers is not a fan of WoW at all.

Blizzard makes references to other games in pretty much all of their games. There were StarCraft themed units in the WarCraft 3 map editor, there are WarCraft and Diablo references in StarCraft. There is a Diablo mini-pet in WoW. It's just a Blizzard thing.

Only in Heroes of the Storm. Sanctuary and Azeroth are two different planets, but apparently they do exist in the same universe, as the "heroes" (and villains) from all franchises are brought together on the battlefields in Heroes. Well, actually, they might not all even exist in the same universe. It (Heroes) does however, in fact, have some kind of story as to how and why they are all there (and where "there" even is.)

Also, for example Thunderfury, the sword in Diablo, is in fact a sword from WoW.

You can check this Heroes tutorial video, where Uther from WoW greets Raynor from Starcraft, and from 3:30 onward there's a bit of an explanation as to where they are and how it binds all the Blizzard franchises together.

There are many cross references in all of their games.
Diablo has thunderfury, now ashbringer, the Grom hellscream banner, and likely more that I missed.
WoW has a pet diablo and many more references.

I played World of Warcraft before. Just didn't hold my attention. I did not even know World of Warcraft had a "story" till like recently. References to other franchises in Diablo are at best obscure to me and unknown otherwise.

Like Thunderfury, I thought that was just a Diablo thing. The more you know _/*.
