    Why do people like elves?

So, why do people like elves so much? I'm not a fan myself, so I want to know what's going on in your head. Tell us what makes elves so awesome to you.

To me, they normally live very long lives, if not forever, they are almost always beautiful, they are usually great with archery and magic as well as more intelligent than most humans.

In Warcraft's case, all of the things above apply, on top of me really liking their story, both Night Elves and Blood Elves. Albeit their story has been taking quite a few hits since WC3, mostly since WoW is an MMO and has to do things story-wise in very specific and boring ways...

Humans, in terms of fiction, are often really god damn boring and reflect ourselves, often very religious, corrupted, greedy and just plain out ass-holes (with notable characters as exceptions, they stand out as being great when really they are just the way everyone should be). Humans in fiction bore me terribly, I get enough of us from our daily news.

“Elves are wonderful. They provoke wonder.
Elves are marvellous. They cause marvels.
Elves are fantastic. They create fantasies.
Elves are glamorous. They project glamour.
Elves are enchanting. They weave enchantment.
Elves are terrific. They beget terror.
The thing about words is that meanings can twist just like a snake, and if you want to find snakes look for them behind words that have changed their meaning.
No one ever said elves are nice.
    Elves are bad.”

Night Elves are insteresting beings. They have a nice history, culture and architecture. I've always liked how they were portayed.

As for the Blood Elves, I don't really like them that much besides the buildings.

Because elves come from a different era of fantasy (they originate in mythology, but if we're talking Warcraft I'll focus on modern fiction). It's something that's been largely lost now, but elves used to be legitimately supernatural. They weren't just another mortal race, they were literally magical. Whether they were an earlier creation of the gods or forest spirits, elves tended to be something legitimately mysterious. That's the kind of thing that got me into fantasy. The adventure of what dangers lay in the forest or in the lands just beyond your home.

Now, in Warcraft specifically, it's less that because even the night elves (who seemed to originally be intended to evoke more of that) have been diluted down to just another race. But at that point, I see no reason to call either race out specifically for being "elves." The night elves are cool to me because they once evoked more of that feeling. They're one with the forest, but in a way that carnivores are also part of their habitat. They're a cool nature race without having to portray it as somehow pacifistic (even if they've been getting pushed that direction). The blood elves are cool because they have an elaborate, magical aesthetic balanced with some dark themes that haven't prevented them from being heroic. I like the high elves because of some of those same reasons obviously, but also because their nature and color scheme harken back to Warcraft's past.

I like elves when they are cool like Illidan, Malfurion or Kael'Thas.

In Warcraft though I find most hard to relate to as they live for so long but they are extremely petty and despite their long lives they manage to hold grudges like crazy. Now Malfurion is among these but I like him for the rest of his character.

Same reason you like Orcs so much.

You enjoy hyper-muscled, slow-witted, ultra-aggressive, xenophobic uncivilized assholes the same way we like snotty, arrogant, beautiful jerks. Different strokes, different folks.

they are basicly people, accept they excel in a lot of things that humans dont, and they usualy look really attractive.

Depends on the elves, but if you think of the typical fantasy high elf, they're pretty much the perfect version of human beauty standard, living a clean and culturally rich life with no diseases and other nasty shit.

I wanna liiiiive like, beautiful peopleee...
Now you see it. Now you don't.

    But was where Dalaran?

    It's been a nerd fantasy since 1937.

    Or maybe 1954.

"great with (...) magic" "more intelligent than most humans"

Then why are all the best mages ever in Warcraft humans? Aegwynn, Medivh, Khadgar (to a lesser extent, Jaina, but her greatest feat was accomplished with the Focusing Iris.)

Steve Irwin died the same way he lived. With animals in his heart.

    Humans are Blizzard's favored child.

I loved warcraft 3 blood elves so I picked blood elves but in the end we didn't really get warcraft 3 blood elves...

I specifically like Night Elf. I don't really like generic elf in general like BE for example or elf in LotR.
