Since the current franchise is set in a alternative universe could Kirk and Spock being lovers be part of the story? What about Superman and Jimmy Olson instead of Louis Lane for a Superman reboot?

I think it would be a refreshing change and something different. Which I don't view as a bad thing wondering if others agree.

They won't, you're turning characters gay just to have them be gay. There's no reasoning behind it other than "I want a gay main character". Which is fine, make a new character, don't change existing characters that have backgrounds that drastically. Both kirk and spock have female partners.

It's an alternative universe so things changed. I think a romantic relationship between Kirk and Spock could be interesting the same as with Kirk and some of the other Crew.

Actually as I stated I think it's a great idea it would introduce contrast in a way to an alternate universe that would really be different.
