driverless car scenario: the best option is for you to die

Let's say a semi truck jackknifes in front of you while you are riding in your driverless car. The driverless car could save your life by swerving into another lane. But doing so will jeopardize the lives of others driving in those other lanes. Should the driverless car kill you by plowing into the wreck, or should it risk killing others to save your life?

Option C. All the other driverless cars around you detect and process the threat and maneuver in a way that allows for the safety of all present.

What about stopping? Or going off the side?
Human progress isn't measured by industry. It's measured by the value you place on a life.

    Just, be kind.

Thread makes driverless cars out to be bad due to the problems of a human...

What would a human do in same scenario ?

answer: nothing the robot couldn't do. Its a no win scenario. The truck driver has fucked over you and now you are officially fucked. Solution: hope the truck is driverless in the future

    Right here.

But to feed the loaded question..

    Option 1 is 100% death
Option 2 is only a chance of killing someone

    Option 2 clearly wins.

I never said driverless cars were a bad thing.

I'm wondering what you think the driverless car should do?

You need more factors than that to make a decent thread. Option 1 clearly says you will die. Option 2 says risking killing others. Are people in the other lane? Will there be a death in the other lane if you swerve, gaurenteed? If so, then it is a question of morals. You vs someone else. I would pick me.

My driverless car is going to have adult-sized infant seats inside steel eggs. In the even of an accident, I'll just pop out after I stop rolling around.

Really thought there is a much higher chance that a human will not be able to process all the information as fast as a computer, thus will make the wrong decision as often as not. A computer can identify, coordinate, and react to a threat in practically no time. Hell, it takes me 1/4 of a second to click my mouse when the screen turns red. I'll trust a computer over myself any day.

Also worth pointing out is the idea that a self driving car will be able to recognize the potential threat of the truck long before it even becomes a threat by losing control. When cars lose control it's not a binary action. Control then BAM out of control. It's a progression. A computer that is capable of self driving a car, I would imagine, would be able to recognize that progressing deviation from control way before the truck loses it all together and would take action in the cars around it long before it's a meaningful threat.

Also, this, with the car being driverless, you can greatly increase human security. You no longer have to have room for them to maneuver arms and feet to pedals and steering wheels in awkward positions. The human can sit right in the middle of the car with protection all around them

the best option is always kill yourself
shouldn't have left the house in the first place, you'll just cause other people's death

Consider the ocean waves, and how the moon's force guides them this way and that across the earth's surface. Human life is an insane coincidence. We are an instance of the universe becoming conscious of itself, yes, old news but always worth review.

Driverless cars earn their wheels by the slaying of a manual car in 1 on 1 combat. Swerve.

Actually option D, the truck never jackknifed as it too was a driverless truck.

Option F. Fire high explosive missiles and blow the truck off the roadway.
