Valve is now offering Refunds on titles within 2 weeks of purchase, with under 2hrs

Valve has just updated its refunds policy

You can request a refund for nearly any purchase on Steam—for any reason. Maybe your PC doesn't meet the hardware requirements; maybe you bought a game by mistake; maybe you played the title for an hour and just didn't like it.

It doesn't matter. Valve will, upon request via help.steampowered.com, issue a refund for any reason, if the request is made within fourteen days of purchase, and the title has been played for less than two hours. There are more details below, but even if you fall outside of the refund rules we’ve described, you can ask for a refund anyway and we’ll take a look.

You will be issued a full refund of your purchase within a week of approval. You will receive the refund in Steam Wallet funds or through the same payment method you used to make the purchase. If, for any reason, Steam is unable to issue a refund via your initial payment method, your Steam Wallet will be credited the full amount. (Some payment methods available through Steam in your country may not support refunding a purchase back to the original payment method. Click here for a full list.)
You can now get a refund for any reason, within 2 weeks of purchasing (or the game releasing if a pre-order), as long as you have less than 2 hours played. This means there is no longer a "will the game run for me" risk, since if it won't run - you can get a refund.

Awesome, this is a great move on their part. Glad to see them finally making movement on this and having some sensible, more consumer friendly policies.

Nice, I never had the urge to get a refound yet, but nice having the possibility.

It's a start, though many game tutorials nowadays last longer than 2 hours, thus you won't be able to see if the actual, non-linear (if applicable) content of the game works.

lol.. its a start? or you could actually read a preview or review for that answer. an hour is more than enough time for most cases but 2 is plenty.

This is...amazing. And unexpected. Especially the Steam Wallet part.

Amazing move by Valve. I hope they focus on Early Access/Greenlight curation next.

It's a hell of a lot better then being out say $40 and just having to eat that loss. I'd much rather be able to buy something, test it and realize it's just horrible, then return it for credit then not at all. That would be $40 I could then turn around and spend on other games, which I could then test out and if I don't like, trade again.

Doing that, my $40 would actually go towards games I want, not just ones I thought I wanted.

Nothing wrong with the concept of Early Access. The problem is what kind of games are actually approved for Early Access. They need a team to actively monitor what gets through and the progress the games make.

Nice that it's now official. I once had to contact them through their customer support when I purchased Steamworld Dig like 6 months ago a few minutes before the sale ended. Suddenly Steam started lagging for a few minutes and guess what, I had paid full price for the game when I accepted the discounted price. Now yes it came back in my Steam wallet but I'm happy it happened like that, it's not like I never use money on Steam again after that. It's nice to know that you won't have to go through a customer support wall again and can just get a refund immediately (and you can even play the game for max 2 hours).

It took over a week, but I got a refund on a game last week. They refunded to my steam wallet, which is what I asked for. Good on them.

I guess I will never have my money back for GTA4, I game that cannot be played because of DRM barriers.

They just solved one of the biggest downsides of using their platform. A great move on their part!

I wonder if they will allow reinbursement for games that go on sale shortly after purchase.

Nothing wrong with the concept of early access, but its execution is woefully flawed.

However, if this change extends over to EA it could have some great benefits, since this is for all intents and purposes a 120 minute demo on any software via the steam support.

That's really nice, especially considering some of the older games on there have problems working on newer systems. I read a lot about KoToR being an example, though I haven't played it myself on Steam yet. But with the 2 hour limit, it can't really be used for much more. It's hard to tell if you dislike a game within two hours.
