Is it a coincidence that now AMD cards are having a problem with Batman Arkham Knight

While back it was reported that AMD cards are having problems running The Witcher 3 due to Nivida's Gameworks. Now Batman Arkham Knight has released and it seems AMD is having problems again. It has even gotten to the point where they updated the recommend video card to AMD Radeon HD 7950 (3 GB Memory Minimum).

    Here is the full story
    https://www.pixeldynamo.com/news/gam...ments-updated/
With Rocksteady’s final instalment in the Arkham franchise Batman: Arkham Knight releasing at various times around the world tomorrow, it appears there have been some issues with the PC version of the game, specifically regarding it’s running on systems that use AMD graphics cards, which have led to a minor change in the minimum system requirements for the game.

WB Games lead community admin Yorick made the announcement via the game’s forum last night, simply stating that, with regards to the minimum requirements, “The minimum specs for Batman: Arkham Knight for PC have been adjusted and are listed below.” This was followed by the news that there have been some issues with the game’s performance on AMD graphics card systems:
Seems the problem once again is Nivida's gameworks. Also its really odd that before there was no posted recommended AMD card.

So what do you guys think. Do you think this is all a coincidence or is Nivida doing something shady.

Update: After reading more posts on steam it also seems the game is hardlocked to 30fps. If your having problems remember you can request a refund within 2hrs of gameplay time.

I highly recommend people avoid the game or buy it on console until the problems are fixed. Seems both Nivida and AMD is having problems but AMD is getting hit the most hard.

I hear that NVidia users are also reporting performance problems. I would wait and see as there is going to be new drivers out this week (there are already going around via leaks but nothing official). But yea, Gameworks games seam to be adding a lot of issues to both AMD users and NVidia users with older cards.

To me it's quite simple. Nvidia has easy to use SDK that allows easy usage of Nvidia graphical tech, AMD doesnt. Developers obviously want their game to be optimized for your videocard, but they dont jump out of their pants to do that, AMD just needs to provide the tools to either 1) provide similar software which has some kind of advantage (would be hard to do because AMD doesnt really develop graphics tech) 2) provide developers with the means to optimize their game for AMD solutions - if that exists and AMD still has problems then it will most likely suggest some sort of interference from Nvidia 3) continue to optimize the drivers which is getting more and more troublesome because of the amount of graphic tech Nvidia has and Gameworks allows easy usage of.

I just seen this story reported and figured I would post a thread to see others opinion.

I have been reading some posts on steam and you are right. Seems some are having problems playing it outright even using a 980ti. Most have been stating they turned off Gameworks and still get problems.

Don't want it to seem like I am accusing Nivida of anything just wondering what everyone's opinion is.

If there are more issues with the game than just Gameworks it could be possible that the game was just rushed or not ported properly.

We don't know how easy the SDK for Nivida or AMD is too use.

So with that said I am not assuming or accusing Nivida of anything. Just wondering if its a coincidence or not. There has always been problems but it seems with Witcher 3 and now Batman Arkham Knight there is massive problems on the AMD side.

Totally agree and that would be odd since the game was delayed what 5 times or some shit lol. Just wondering what everyone thinks about this.

Who knows what happened during development. There could have been a lot of things that prevent the game to be released properly. End users have very rarely any insight into what's going on in the studios that make those games.

Turn off gameworks? I'm still downloading so haven't had a look yet but most games let you turn off nvidia features.

Still seeing posts on steam of people turning off gameworks and still getting massive fps drops even on a titan x or GTX 980ti.

The more I read the more it looks like a really badly optimized game.

Well it's downloaded now so I'll do some testing. Let's see how sli works out.

Cool beans just to let you know you have to unlock the fps.

Also I loved my rig I build a couple months back but looking at urs makes it look so small LOL.

You know it is hilarious that in the past games have been shown to occasionally have an affinity for one architecture or another and it is stated as such. Take a look at alien vs predator that run so well on AMD cards it was dropped from most benchmarks so it did not skew aggregates. Now the attitude has changed and it is some kind of conspiracy. The only difference it AMD got exceptional frame rates and Nvidia got playable frame rates, but if people are going to keep asking for games that push their hardware...

AMD driver with support for the game is out:

Normally, in such instances, it is simply a matter of the proper driver updates being done by the GPU manufacturers.

People are reporting bad performance with drivers that support the game. The game is also limited to 30 fps (which can be changed by modifing an ini file). Seams like a major screw up by the developers and neither AMD or NVidia is at fault here.

I'm not seeing any issues after an hour or so of gameplay. Unlocked the framerate and put everything on/high and I'm seeing a very steady 58-62 fps. Which to be fair is a little low but looking at the game I can see why. Tons of stuff going on with all the gameworks turned on.

Games shouldn't need Nvidia or AMD's help when it comes to features like Gameworks. You're going to run into this problem that when your game favors one graphics card brand over another then it comes into question. Also it's simple to figure out why Gameworks exists. Nvidia doesn't just throw extra features into games just cause.

I heard that AMD is not working with game developers like nvidia and don't really help them with problems like nvidia do so yeah.

They do work with game devs, but not as much as NVidia.
